It's been so long since i've answered a light hearted question that doesnt deal with bashing or falsifying islam. So thx for the question. Here's what Heaven is like, in detail, according to Islam (it's one of the chapters of my book, i hope you'll enjoy it)
note: everything in quotes are qur'anic verses
Heaven
Heaven is underrated just like Hell; but unlike Hell, which is a just punishment for the evil-doers, Heaven is a reward that no one deserves. It can only be given, and not merited. Muhammad PBUH said, “No one will enter Paradise by his deeds alone.” So the companions asked, “Not even you, O Prophet of God?” He replied, “Not even me, unless God blesses me with His Grace and Mercy.” He will be the first one to knock on the doors of Paradise on Judgement Day. The gatekeeper will ask, “Who is knocking?” and the Prophet PBUH will say, “Muhammad.” So the gatekeeper will say, “I was ordered not to open the gate for anyone, except you.” The first group of people to enter Heaven will be glittering like the moon when it is full. In it, they will not spit, nor blow their noses, nor relieve nature. Their utensils will be of gold and their combs of gold and silver; in their centers the aloe wood will be used, and their sweat will smell like musk. They will neither have differences, nor hatred amongst themselves. Their hearts will be like one heart, and they will be glorifying God in the morning and in the evening.
“Those who were mindful of their Lord will be led in throngs to the Garden. When they arrive, they will find its gates wide open, and its keepers will say to them, ‘Peace be upon you. You have been good. Come in: you are here to stay,’ and they will say, ‘Praise be to God who has kept His promise to us and given us this land as our own. Now we may live wherever we please in the Garden.’ How excellent is the reward of those who labour!” The believers will enter Heaven in the most perfect and beautiful form: in the image of their father, Adam, whom God created very tall – 60 cubits tall. They will have no body hair and will look as if their eyes are anointed with kohl. They will enter Paradise, aged 33, the age of strength and vitality. “They will enter perpetual gardens, along with their righteous ancestors, spouses, and descendants; the angels will go in to them from every gate, ‘Peace be with you, because you have remained steadfast. What an excellent reward is this home of yours.’ ”
In the Garden, all hatred, jealousy, or sense of injury will be removed from the heart of its inhabitants. All grief will be removed, and no sense of fatigue, toil, or weariness will touch them. There will be no excessive heat, nor bitter cold; neither will there be any pain, nor intoxication. The hearts of the believers will be pure, their speech, good, and their deeds, righteous. There will be no hurtful, or upsetting, or offensive, or provocative talk there, for Paradise is free of all worthless words and deeds: “There they will hear no vain talk or lie” “[…] only peaceful talk, nothing bad.” “Dishes and goblets of gold will be passed around them with all that their souls desire and their eyes delight in.” “They will be served with silver plates and gleaming silver goblets according to their fancy, and they will be given a drink infused with ginger from a spring called Salsabil.” “Everlasting youths will go round among them with glasses, flagons, and a pure liquid that causes no headache or intoxication; [there will be] any fruit they want; the meat of any bird they like; and beautiful companions like hidden pearls.” “They will have Gardens of lasting bliss graced with flowing streams. There they will be adorned with bracelets of gold. There they will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade. There they will be comfortably seated on soft chairs. What a blessed reward! What a pleasant resting place!”
“They are comfortably seated on couches arranged in rows. We pair them with beautiful-eyed maidens.” “On raised couches of well-woven cloth they will sit facing each other.” “Everlasting youths will attend them – if you could see them, you would think they were scattered pearls, and if you were to look around, you would see a vast, blissful kingdom.” “They turn to one another and say, ‘When we were still with our families [on earth] we used to live in fear – God has been gracious to us and saved us from the torment of intense heat – We used to pray to Him: He is the Good, The Merciful One.’ ” “They will say, ‘Praise be to God, who has separated us from all sorrow! Our Lord is truly most forgiving, most appreciative: He has, in His bounty, settled us in the everlasting Home where no toil or fatigue will touch us.’ ” In Heaven, people are inspired to praise and glorify God as they are inspired to breathe. It becomes something natural which does not require any conscious effort; this is due to Heaven’s unimaginable delights. As time passes on, the inhabitants of Paradise will increase in beauty perpetually; yet, no matter what beauty a man or a woman may achieve, it will still be incomparable to God’s beauty. May He be glorified!
One of the companions asked Muhammad PBUH, “Describe to us what Paradise looks like.” He said, “The bricks of the palaces will be of gold and silver.” There are no wood or stones. These are the cheap things used to build houses in this world, but not in Heaven. Muhammad PBUH continued, “The cement between the bricks will be of strong musk, the best of odours one could ever imagine. The thickness of the carpets in those palaces will be equivalent to the journey of 500 years. The gardens outside the palaces will have streams flowing beneath them of crystal clear water, pure milk, and honey. The ground of Paradise will be of Saffron, and the sand on the ground will be made of pebbles and rubies.” You do not need to pick up these pebbles and rubies because you already have enough of them at home. Muhammad PBUH ended this description with: “And the ceiling of Paradise is the Throne of the Merciful.”
Imagine Muhammad PBUH showing you your castle in Paradise. There, you will not feel as a stranger; on the contrary, you will feel right at home. When you enter the Garden, you will feel as if you already know it because your father Adam has lived in it. God has said in the Qur’an: “He will admit them into the Garden He has already made known to them.” You will know it just as well, or even better, than you know the house you live in right now. You will say, “Yes, my castle is the one on the third intersection to the right, the fourth castle near the river of honey, two castles away from Moses’ house, the one that has five yachts, six gardens of gold, and countless cars.”
God said, “I have prepared for My righteous servants such excellent things as no eye has ever seen, nor an ear has ever heard, nor a human heart can ever think of.” God prepared these things, Himself, for us. We have seen many things with our eyes, and we have heard of even more things with our ears; but our hearts have desired the impossible. To be able to satisfy these desires and reward us with things that even surpass them is truly unbelievable. That world of fantasy you read about in your books, God can create it for you. I have been pondering for almost two years what I would do the moment I enter Paradise – God willing – but I still cannot decide. I do not know whether I should greet the prophets, the companions of Muhammad PBUH, bow in worship and gratitude, or go to my palace. I do not know what to do even after I enter it – God willing. I always like to plan things first before doing them. But with all the delights that I can image, and all those that I cannot imagine, it drives me mad to decide what to do for the first and second million years.
Muhammad PBUH said, “A place in Heaven equal to the size of an arrow bow is better than the whole world and whatever is in it.” Can you believe this? That means that if you stood in Paradise, for all eternity, doing nothing, it would be better than all the worldly riches you desire. You would prefer to stand in Paradise, unable to go beyond the place you occupy, over all the money, cars, houses, women, and friends that you can ever wish for in this world. “Those on the Right, what people they are! They will dwell amid thornless lote trees and clutstered acacia with spreading shade, constantly flowing water, abundant fruits, unfailing, unforbidden, with incomparable companions We have specially created – virginal, loving, of matching age – for those on the Right, many from the past and many from later generations.”
“There will be maidens restraining their (husbands’) glances, untouched beforehand by man or jinn” and they will sing to them in the most beautiful voices that anyone has ever heard. “We shall wed them to maidens with large, dark eyes. Secure and contended, they will call for every kind of fruit. After the one death they will taste death no more.” But the believing women of this world will even surpass the fair maidens in beauty. The maidens were created in Heaven, but Heaven was created for those who have passed life’s tests; therefore, they cannot be preferred over the believing women of this world. When a Muslim woman enters her palace in Heaven, she lights up everything in it and fills it with her fragrance; and whenever she talks to her husband, she makes him forget all that is in Paradise. There they will experience true undying love.
The last person who will be admitted into Heaven will be the last person coming out of Hell. Keep in mind that man must have led a terrible life for him to be the last one. Every time he tries to get out of Hell, its Fire pulls him back. He will cry, “O God! Turn my face away from the fire as its winds hurt me and its fire has burnt me.” God will ask him, “Will you ask for anything else if I grant you this favour?” The man will say, “No, by Your Glory!” And he will give to his Lord pledges and covenants. So God will turn his face from the Fire. As soon as the man gets out of Hell, he will look at it and say, “Thank God who has saved me from you!” When he will set his eyes on Heaven and see its splendour, he will remain quiet for as long as he can, but, eventually, he will say, “O Lord! Let me go to the gates of Paradise.” God will ask him, “Did you not give pledges and make covenants that you would not ask for anything more than what you have already requested?” The man will say, “O Lord! Do not make me the most wretched amongst Your creatures!”
So God will say to him, “If this request is granted, will you then ask for anything else?” He will say, “No, by Your Glory! I shall not ask for anything else.” Then he will give to his Lord pledges and covenants. So God will let him go to the gates of Paradise. Upon reaching them and seeing the pleasures of Heaven, the man will remain quiet for as long as he can but will then say, “O Lord! Let me enter Paradise.” God will say to him, “May God have mercy on you, son of Adam! How treacherous you are! Have you not made covenants and given pledges that you would not ask for anything more than what you have already been given?” So the man will say, “O Lord! Do not make me the most wretched amongst Your creatures!”
So God will tell him, “My servant, go and enter Paradise.” When the man goes to enter it, he will see it as full. So he will return and say, “O Lord, I have found it full.” God will say, “Go and enter Paradise. Will you not be satisfied to have riches equal to the riches of the greatest king on earth?” On that, the man will say, “Do you mock me while You are the Lord of the Worlds?” So God will say, “You will have riches equal to the riches of the greatest king on earth, and two folds, and three folds, and four folds, and five folds, and six folds.” At that, the man will say, “Enough! Enough! Lord, I am satisfied! Lord, I am satisfied!” Then God will say, “You will have what equals the riches of the world and ten times as much; and you will be granted whatever your heart desires, and whatever your eyes wish, while you live in bliss for all eternity.” This will be the lowest rank amongst the people of Paradise.
Muhammad PBUH explained that the inhabitants of Heaven will have different levels according to their righteousness. He said, “The people of Paradise will look at the people dwelling in the chambers above them in the same way that we look at a brilliant star shining far away on the horizon, in the East or West, because of the superiority of those people [in reward] over them.” So the companions asked, “O Prophet of God, are these the dwellings of the prophets which no one else can attain?” He replied, “No! By Him in whose Hand my soul is, they are for the men who believed in God and His messengers.” Moses asked God, “O Lord, who are the ones that have the highest rank in Heaven?” God replied, “These are the ones whom I choose. I establish their honour with My own Hand and then set a seal over it.” How can you not envy these people? Muhammad PBUH said, “The person with the lowest rank in Heaven will require more than a 1,000 years to traverse his kingdom.” When the companions heard this, they asked the Prophet PBUH, “How will those with the highest ranks live in Paradise?” He said, “These are the ones who look upon God in the morning and in the evening.” Are you still tempted by what this life can offer you?
When everyone will have entered Heaven, God will call them, “O people of Paradise!” They will say, “Our Lord! We present ourselves and are at Your pleasure; and goodness rests in Your Hands.” Then God will ask, “Are you pleased?” And they will say, “And how can we not be pleased, Lord, when You have given to us that which You have given to no one else of Your creations?” Then He will say, “Would you not like Me to give you something even better than that?” And they will say, “O Lord, and what thing can be better than that?” And He will say, “I shall cause My Favour to descend upon you and thereafter shall never be displeased with you.”
Then a day will come where a caller will proclaim: “O people of Paradise! Your Lord requests your presence.” So they will say, “We hear and obey!” They will all go to a wide valley where they will all meet – none of them will turn down the request of the caller. God will order His ‘Chair’ to be brought there. Then, pulpits of light, pearls, gemstones, gold, and silver will emerge for the believers to sit on. When they will feel comfortable and secure in their places, the caller will say, “O people of Paradise! You have an appointment with God in which He wishes to reward you!” So they will say, “And what is that reward? Has He not already made our faces bright, made our scales heavy, admitted us into Paradise, and pushed us away from the Fire?”
And when they are like that, all of a sudden, a light that encompasses all of Heaven will shine. The inhabitants of Paradise will raise their heads and behold: ‘The Compeller’ has come to them from above. He will say, “O people of Paradise! Peace be upon you!” So, this greeting will not be answered by anything better than: “O God! You are the Peace, and from You is Peace! Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour!” So the Lord of Majesty will laugh and say, “O people of Paradise! Where are those who used to obey Me without having ever seen Me?” And everyone will raise their hands. Will you be amongst them? Then God will say, “O people of Paradise! This is the Day of Increase! Ask Me for anything!” All the believers will give the same answer, “We are pleased, so be pleased with us!” God will reply, “O people of Paradise! If I were not pleased with you, I would not have made you inhabitants of My Heaven! So ask Me for anything!” So they will agree upon the same thing and say: “O Lord! Show us your Face so that we may look upon You!” So the Lord of the Worlds will remove His covering and cover them with His Light. Upon seeing His Face, the inhabitants of Heaven will experience such delight and joy as they have never experienced from the day they were created.
Nothing will ever yield more pleasure for them than looking upon the Face of God. And there will not remain a single person in this gathering that God will not speak to and say, “Do you remember the day you did this? Do you remember the day you did that?” and He will remind them of their bad deeds. So each person will say, “O Lord! Will You not forgive me?” So God will reply, “Of course! You have not reached this position of yours in Paradise except by My forgiveness.” Then He will say, “O so-and-so, I am pleased with you. Are you pleased with Me?” Can you imagine God asking us this question? Then He will tell each person, “Ask for anything.” So everyone will wish for a great number of things: “I wish for this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this…” until they run out of things to wish for. Then God will remind them, “You forgot to wish for that. Wish for it. You forgot to wish for this. Wish for it.” And God will keep on reminding them until He fulfills all that they ever dreamed of having. “They will have all that they wish for there, and We have more for them.” How can you still disobey Him?
There is no happiness in this world. True happiness is in Heaven. After reading this, how much would you be willing to pay to enter Paradise? And how much would you be willing to pay for the most expensive house in this world? Which one do you think is cheaper? A place in Heaven is only 15 minutes of worship every day. A place in Heaven is fasting during Ramadan. A place in Heaven is reading the Qur’an every now and then. A place in Heaven is obeying your parents. A place in Heaven is paying the prescribed alms. The reward of Heaven is too great not to have a price. The price of Heaven is Islam: total devotion to God.
Peace be with you, i hope you read all of it.
