There is this little boy that goes to the school where I work. He screams all day long and throws stuff around the room constantly. (I work across from the special ed classroom so I hear it). I also noticed during an assembly that when music came on, the little boy put his hands to his ears and started screaming bloody murder. I just started at the school so I don't know many other teachers and I don't want to pry about what could be wrong with this little boy, but I am curious.

the information you gave is so little-- we need a lot more in order to tell you what it might be. it can be any of the following:

externalized behavioral disorder: oppositional behavior
externalized behavioral disorder: seking attention
any of the subtypes of autism spectrum disorder
attention deficit hyperactive disorder
mental retardation with behavioral problem
hearing impairment with behavioral problem

each of these can manifest in the way you described with differing reasons.

I agree with the others about some form of autisim. Certain things REALLY bother them and all they can do is scream when they are in that situation until removed and calmed down. It usually involves a lot of issues and things that deal with differently then non autisic individuals. With a lot of 1on 1 therapy with a behavioral specialist (the earlier the better) they can often go to regular schools etc. They will always be a bit "different" but able to interact with others if taken care of properly EARLY on. Depending on the type and severity of this childs Autisim (if in fact that's what it is) he may not get much better and always have to be in special classes or schools.

It is refreshing to see that you are concerned about one little boy when you have a class of your own. Usually when a child or even adult for that reason is suffering from more than one dissorder. Like in a person diagnosed as Bi-Polar. They go through two very opposite swings of the pendilum. They go from severe depresstion, some patients more severe as to suicidal, then without warning they hit a manic stage. The manic usually just means exhibits behaviors not normal for that person. Such as writing hot checks. shoplifting, a large variety.
First this little boy cannot be properly diagnosed in this way but if I was to go strickly on your descriptions I would say he may be Autistic. Autism is in it's very worse stage in preschool. Autistic children like no personal contact. Imagine that they suffered a horrible sunburn. When a parent just tries to offer a hug, the child will act as though in severe pain. It's like every sense is magnified. It takes autistic children a very long time to get used to the normal surroundings of just their home. They literally live for severe structure. Any little thing out of the normal ritualistic daily functions can set them back to the beginning. So with this child acting out like you describe sounds like he is suffering not mentally by pyshically. Usually if you know your childs autistic they go to a very specialized school. Again your description gives me this conclusion, but with out being assesed properlly eventually if he is a disruption to your class just kindly explain to the other teacher and say "may I ask what is his dissability" Hope this helped some but if not you gained a better knowledge of Bi-Polar Dissorder & Autism****Nellers****

I take care of mentally handicapped kids. This boy sounds Autistic. he needs quiet, soothing sounds, little to no excitement. The parents either don't know he has it, or can't afford special schools.

It's hard to tell from the little you mentioned, but it could be autism, issues related to a mother who used drugs during pregnancy or abuse issues. Best to leave him alone until you know more, because even your best effort could cause you injury.

My guess would be autism. May autistic kids are sensitive to stimulation, and get frustrated easily. This is just a guess.

Probably Autistic behavior....
Noises startle, and they don't like to engage other people.
Though it could be a variety of other things....
