As a private homeowner with an American flag on my outdoor pole, I was wondering if most people will fly it at half-mast? I just can't remember what we have all done concerning this for the past 4 yrs..

Yes, as part of the legislation passed, and President Bush's proclamation (in years past- I haven't seen this year's yet) ALL flags should be at half-mast and he is asking for a moment of silence at 8:46 am (the time the first plane hit).

This site has a history and reasoning for PATRIOT DAY and has all of the previous years proclamations- it has this years too. I'll link that one separately.
PATRIOT DAY- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_day

To those of you who no longer wish to hear about 9/11 - you are entitled to your opinion (it's one of the great things about the U.S.) however, this is not the place for that ranting. Find a question that asks about your feelings on the subject. This person is asking about what the expected procedure for hanging a flag on 9/11 should be - and THAT is what we should answer.

I am a teacher and will put up a half mast flag in the classroom. Back on 9/12, I took a flag I had, detached it from the pole and reattached it halfway down. I used it again when Columbia went down, and when Reagan died. I use it every 9/11.

I'm not and I don't plan to fly an American flag... at half mast or otherwise. I'm so sick of being beaten over the head about 9/11 for the past 5 years that I really just don't care about it any longer.

I am from Central Texas, next to Ft Hood. We are all flying our flags at half-mast in memory of all the victims of 9/11. So many of us in this area lost friends and family in the pentagon, the one place that people forget a plane also tried to destroy. Lets not forget the plane that crashed in Penn State, that was also suppose to be part of the terror plot.

Remember all the people in all 4 planes, who died in vain.. All the people who lost family in the building, and rescue efforts. Remember, the children who will never know their fathers because they were born after their death in those horrible attacks. I am not sure flying flags at half-mast is enough of a tribute to those who are gone.

To the "no more about 9/11" post. "Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it." We forget, we become complacent, we get attacked again.
