You should run a search on a travel metasearch site so you can compare. You could check out sidestep.com which allows you to compare air from multiple travel sites and multiple airlines and view in a "comparison shopping" format. Once you find the flights you want, then you can book directly with the airline or with the hotel you select.

For airline tickets, your cheapest option is going directly to the airlines. Booking online with them is cheaper than Expedia, Orbit, etc because they don't charge a booking fee. I have yet to travel anywhere on a cheaper fare than what the airlines can offer directly.
Travel agents are good if you are looking for airline/resort packages. I had good luck with cheapcaribbean.com the one time I used a travel agent. They got me a package at Couples Swept Away that included the most expensive $600/night suite and I only paid $350/night. Nobody even came close on thta one.

My vote is Priceline, they have the best access to hotels and their system offers true bargains. Most other online systems are not as cheap as the airlines web sites. Delta, NW and US Air have great web sites. Continental's site was "trashed" by their management recently and should be avoided at all costs until they get it fixed in October. You will save money and get good hotels and rental cars if you learn the Priceline system. Airfares are good too.
