Social studies is the study of history, geography, civics, sociology, economics
Social studies can also refer to the study of particular aspects of human society at certain post-secondary and tertiary schools worldwide. Such institutions provide courses, programs of study, or possibly certificates, diplomas, or degrees in 'social studies'. The subject matter varies from institution to institution but tends to include both pure and applied social sciences. Examples of the former include sociology, psychology, and linguistics. Examples of the latter include business, economics, criminology, and mass media. These schools may exclude certain humanities and natural sciences (such as earth sciences and climatology) which are included in many North American social studies classes.

Good God! That first answer would make even the most studious kid squirm! Social studies is really fun! You get a differentt ake on history by reading up on various kinds of people and the places they live and things they do there. You will get a good, overall view of the United States and the diversity in its different parts. But, as in anything, if you go in with a closed mind, you will not enjoy it and pull in the good grades I am sure you are capable of!

Social Studies covers the general aspects of elementary geography, history, cultures of the US and the world. The advanced study categorization of this is history.
