I know a formal handshake is supposed to be like "eye contact - firm grip - two or three shakes", but what about when you're meeting someone casual for the first time??

as a girl, i know a lot of guys aren't comfortable with "nice to meet you!" hugs--and as a teenager who meets a lot of punks and thugs, the formal one doesn't seem to fit either.

so what the hell do i do?

A Firm handshake (as in you should be able to feel the muscles near your wrist tighten a bit) with an ever so slight head bow where you are looking into the eyes of your opponent...I mean, person.

Casually speaking, extend hand to theirs, lean hand sharp right in mid air, swing under up and around, collidiing with their palm, snap lightly with other hand from right to left in sync with theirs and then join elbows into each and finally upward, after which make a crowing like sound a total of three times each....

Then open up the trunk...

Stick with the nice to meet you handshake. It's still appropriate for something casual. And if you don't like the idea of shaking hands, keep eye contact, smile in a friendly manner and nod your head to them. Keep your hands loose, and to your sides with your hands open. That way your body language is non threatening and you look interested and friendly.

3 seconds is too long. Eye contact, a semi-firm grip and a nice to meet you, how are you, is fine.

Jusat grab the hand, shake it for 3 seconds, and then let go....then put a lot of Germ-X on your hand, than wash your hands real good with soap 10 times in a row!!

Smile and say, ( It's nice to meet you! )
If you must shake hands, make it a short but firm handshake.
Remember to smile!.
