I'm not a doctor, but this is my opinion. I always played the odds of when I figured I wasn't ovulating (without actually doing ovulation tests - I just went by what the "experts" said are the 'normal" times to ovulate) and it totally worked for a long time. Now, however, I am 12 weeks pregnant with a child I conceived the day after my 4-day period ended.
MAYBE the risks are lower, but if you really don't want to get pregnant, why risk it at all. No matter how low the risk is, it has BIG consequences!

in theory, yes. Choosing when in your cycle to have unprotected sex is called the rhythm mehod of birth control. It is based on the fact that you can only get pregnant during a time close to ovulation and ovulation occurs mid-cycle.
However, it is impossible for most women to say when ovulation occurs (you can't see it), and sperm live an awfully long time after ejaculation. Many women who rely on the Rhythm do end up pregnant
If you consider pregnancy a "risk," then you should use a method of birthcontrol other than the rhythm method. .

Depends on when she ovulates. Condoms lower the risk of pregnancy more consistently then trying to find the magic day. 25% of all people practicing the rythym method become pregnant within the first year.

As long as you have unprotected sex it doesn't matter what day of the month you have sex on you still run the risk of pregnancy. Not to mention the risk of spreading HIV or an STD or two.

Sure. But wearing protection or having her on the pill works quite a bit better.
