The best and healthiest way to begin is to breastfeed your baby. Not only does it burn over 500 calories a day, but it helps to strink your insides (pulls your stretched uterus back together) because of the hormones. Also, I read a study where women who breastfed for at least 3 months lost almost all of their pregnancy weight within a year.

The basic rule is 9 months up, and 9 months down, so don't be discouraged if it takes a little while.

If you choose to formula feed, you can still lose the weight, it will just take a little longer. If you exercise a bit (even just 20-30 minutes a day of brisk walking) and eat right, you should have no problems taking the weight off within a few months.

I just had my first baby four months ago and I had gained 50 (!) pounds during pregnancy. Now, I'm still breastfeeding and the pounds are slowly but surely coming off (and I don't even exercise!).

Good luck!

Breastfeed your baby to lose weight. Also, do weight lifting above your waist and from side to side (but use your baby or toddler and be gentle.) Make sure to keep a straight back while lifting to prevent injury. Your stomach muscles will be stretched out (this is not necessarily fat tissue) so you will need to do stomach crunches or sit ups (several.) Also, walking with your baby (instead of driving everywhere) or walking up stairs (instead of using elevator) will help some. But will not help your stomach muscles tighten. Also, eat healthy food.

After I had my first son, I used to lay on the floor with my legs bent with him sitting on my feet with his head by my knees. I'd bounce him and he loved it. I lost most of my belly weight quickly. Two years later when I was pregnant with my daughter I read that doing that is a great way to lose the belly weight after you have the baby. I did it with all three of my children and it definetly helped.

Breast feed. Eat well, exercise. walk a lot. You have to wait a little while until your muscles go back into place, otherwise you risk tearing them, or ending up with a hernia.
