If both sides pray for the same thing, then that seems wrong to me - If I was going to kill someone I would not ask God for strength, etc - and I definitely would not fight in Gods name...

No, it is not wrong for you to ask God to help you when you go to war. We need him regardless of the situation, and praying for strength, etc. Is a way of consoling ourselves, believing in a higher power. We are taught for the most part the 10 commandments and it does seem contradictory, in some aspects. But God is a forgiving God, if you feel you are doing something wrong in war, regardless of what it is, God will hear our prayers. Keep strong in your beliefs, God does hear all prayers, altho some are not answered in our time...it is ALWAYS IN GOD'S TIME. Agree with me or not<<< ~Peace~

Most "religious" wars are actually no religious wars at all. God is brought in to get the people behind it and make them more eager to sacrifice their lives. It becomes even more ridiculous when a war that is started by the world-leader that is totally based on nothing but lies and then he ask gods help and even claims to have an open communication channel with the divine. That's not less dangerous than Osama himself and this is proven many times already.

You have answered your own question mate why would god want to fight on both sides? It would be totally hypocritical to bless two different nations going to war and to kill innocent victims. God is a god of love 1 john 4:8

Humans — but only the dumb ones — always
think they go into "A Holy War". And so they pray.
Both sides pray to GOD.

In WW 2 every soldier was praying.... before
going to be slaughtered. The Russians, the English,
the Americans... even the German soldiers prayed
to God (not to Adolf Hitler) to win that terrible war.

And no one was right.

War is apart of religon. War occurs when there has been a "fu^k up" somewhere where parties can not get along and unfortunatly war is the only way to procede.

In the Gita (hinduism) that man kind are just that and we can not help but to get into war. The Gods have had many wars so it is natural for humans to have wars, But in the Gita it says that usually only 1 side is in the right to have war. (Krishna explaining to Arjun).

War has always been in religion. War will always be apart of life.

You're right. You can ask Him for help all you want but if you are a murderer, whatever the circumstances, you're not going to be in his good graces at all.
He made it pretty clear when he said: "Thou shall not kill" but then again Men stopped paying attention to the 10 commandments a long time ago (If they ever did).

it is against Gods laws to take a human life. jesus also told us to be no part of the world. if you are going to war you are likely to break both of these so it would be hypocrasy to pray for him to help you in war

If God is really there, He does as He pleases, and asking for His help is only a morale booster, if anything.

The Jewish have a saying that goes "If you want to make God laugh; tell Him your plans"
