I'm only 28 yrs. old and suffer everyday from chonic backpain. Although it isn't limited to, the pain is usually worse at night and in the morning. It prevents me from getting the rest I need ! Ive already seen doctors who think I'm drug seeking, Ive changed my mattresses a dozen times,I'm not over weight. I do have a slight curvature of the spine that was noticed by a pediatric doctor when I was little. I don't know what to do, but something has to be done. I can't live in agony forever!! will I have no choice but to just live like this ???? PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?

In addition to the other good suggestions, check out www.hufa.org, the main page or the symptoms link, and look under pain. The article there can give you some ideas on what foods to eat to naturally raise your pain threshold (lower pain). It has to do with your production of insulin, and the other chemicals that may be overproduced if you (like most other Americans) are inadvertently producing more insulin than necessary.

Please e-mail me if you have problems finding the article. It may help.

Investigate Alexander Technique. This principal says that if you don't use your body correctly, it starts to function incorrectly. 'Use affects functioning'. It could be, all the different ways you use your body with your kids or in your job need to be considered -- how am I doing this wrong? Where am I causing the stress? The only way to tune in, is to learn that 'balanced' feeling again, when the muscles of your body are properly supporting your spine and skeleton with no pain. Then, when you move in a way that causes stress, you'll know it. For now, when you do something the wrong way, your nerves have been pinched somewhere, or you have become used to pain and it is dulled, so you can't tell and do more damage. The way you bend down to lift your child. Or the way you sit when you are applying makeup. All these things need to be looked at to ultimately cure your back pain, and the Alexander Technique is an excellent way to examine it for yourself.

Try a firmer mattress but not a hard one.

Try hydrotherapy. Or if you don't have access to a gym or hottub then sit in your own tub of warm water deep enough to cover the painful area.

Use heat packs that you can buy in the store, a water bottle or a rice bag that you can make. Take an old sock & fill it with rice, tie up the end of it. Heat it in the microwave for a minute or two & place on the painful area.

Take motrin or advil for the pain.

Walk as much as you can. Inactivity is worse for your back.

I have the same thing. Try hot water bottles and Advil. (pain med of any type.) Try changing your shoes too. Your feet and knee's have alot to do with back pain. I have constant pain too but I've learned to live with it. Seriously. Look into orthopedic shoes. It may help. Not all are ugly and hey, if it helps, who cares right? Also maybe simple insoles can help. Good luck

I have three suggestions for you:

Walk for a half hour twice a day, early morning and early evening, to help straighten your spine.

Get acupuncture from a registered, qualified acupuncturist who specializes in back issues.

See a chiropractor who can work with your back issues and give you specific exercises to help strengthen your back.

Meanwhile, find ways to be kind to your back by avoiding heavy lifting, awkward positions, and don't ever sleep on your stomach!

Does your pain go into your leg at all? Have you had an MRI.? That can really see whats going on with your back. Please don't let anyone manipulate your back without knowing whats going on, thay could do more harm then good. Been there, done that.

"Ive changed my mattresses a dozen times"

If you are seeking advice, would it not be prudent to state what mattress configurations you have already tried, instead of pointlessly exploiting others?
