They are cheaper in price than the Canon lenses that I have looked at but I don't know about their quality. I would be taking photographs to sell, so it must be a high quality lens in order for me to consider using it.

A good Tamron lens is better than a cheap lens made by any camera manufacturer. A good "brand name" lens is probably better than a comparable Tamron lens. (I hesitate to use that term, since Tamron is a good "brand name," but you konw what I mean.)

Go to http://www.popphoto.com and search for lens reviews. They have many Tamron and Canon lenses in their data bank and you can probably find a direct comparison of the lenses you are considering.

I have a Canon 20D and I bought the Tamron XR Di 28-75mm lens. I am not joking when I say the quality jump in my photos was incredible compared to the cheap lens that came with my 20D. I was floored.

Like any lens company, some of their stuff will be better than others -- but that lens is fantastic. It's a great walking around lens. I use it constantly.

Yes, Tamron is a wonderful third party lens that is made for Nikon and Canon (and possibly other brands of) cameras. Just make sure that the lens you are looking at specifies that it fits on a Nikon and you are all set. =]

If you buy Tamron, get their SP series (SP, SP Di, SP Di II) thats their good stuff

I shoot with that same 28-75 SP Di on a Pentax DSLR and it's my goto lens every time.
