Firstly, I must declare that I am an atheist and a scientist.

If I DID believe in the existence of God, however, I would then be obsessed by the questions:

Where did God come from?
Why does God exist?
Who created God? And if no-one created him how can he just "BE"?
What constitutes God?
Why did God create the universe?

And would want to seek evidence, REAL evidence not historical documents. These would be the greatest questions I could ask.

Why do I not see believers asking these questions, rather than talking about what they already "know" from scripture?

I think I need to clarify:

I want to know why I do not see religious believers asking the "big" questions, as in my examples... I don't mean questioning their belief as in inconsistencies in the Bible or other scripture.

Nope not all believers lack curiosity...I too ask these questions, though normally I would not ask them in public because:

1.) No one has enough true evidence to answer any of those questions in any direction (whether there is God or no God)...

2.) I am rarely pleased by an easy or simplistic answer, which is why I am sometimes annoyed by fellow Christians who answer similar questions with overly simple answers such as scripture quotes...unfortunately non-Christians rarely if ever pass my standards either...

and finally...

3.) You're right, I would become obsessed with those questions, that would mean nearly zero time for the things that do matter (life in general, love, family, other studies, social life and etc.)

In the end yes we should be more curious of these and other questions...but we must not let it consume us...there's more to life than that (which I assume you know all too well...)

All great questions!

Main Answer - I just look around.

If you can believe in,

"Out of Nothing, created everything." You have greater faith than I do.

You are living proof, there had to be something before you were created. Who created the something should be the question.

Here is an answer to some of the other questions,
I don't know. It doesn't really matter at this point. I am here and what is my purpose. And am I doing what I a suppose to do?

And the universe question,

If you have a child or children, do you not see wonder in their eyes when they can't explain a situation or get excited about finding out something they didn't know about.
Watch a child and you will see why the universe was created(one of the reasons).

Ha ha ha You are so funny!

Of course we do. We found the truth a while ago. If you found a lost ring, you would not continue to look for it once it was discovered. That would be pointless.

What real evidents? A group of bones founded miles apart and pieced together into a "missing link" called Lucy. How about a peppered moth glued to a tree and photographed for an anthropology text book when those moths do not even turn out during the day?

Since when hasn't historical documents been considered real evidence. By that logic, Darwin did not exit, Martin Luther King didn't exist, Elvis didn't exist. Ha ha ha. One hundred years form now, you will have never existed, because the only proof of your existence will be found in historical documents called census records, birth records, death records etc.

As a believer in God, I too am always asking question. Some questions I get answered and some I keep asking until I do get the answer. As Cristian's we are always searching for the meaning of things. I, however, do not question the existence of God, or of His Son Jesus. There are some things that you must have faith and belief in. I believe that Christ died for our sins, that He was the only begotten Son of our Lord God and I believe that the Bible is the Word of God. Other than that you will have to pray to God to seek the answers you are looking for.

Some do not all. My husband is an Anglican, while he does not believe everything word for word he questions what he feels are discrepancies. Some though will not question at all because they have absolute faith in what they believe in and therefore have no room for questioning.

I like you, work in the field of science & industry - chemistry to be exact. I have always been the type to question everything which I will say didn't sit well with the Reverend or the Sunday School teachers when my mother made me go to church as a child. The belief system had no room for doubters.

Well they do..

You just missed it .

Here is one example. This beautiful hymen is from Rig Veda and Poet of this hymen is just asking those many question , you are wondering about.........

Hymn of Creation
(Rig Veda, Mandala X)

1. Then even nothingness was not, nor existence.
There was no air then, nor the heavens beyond it.
What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping?
Was there then cosmic water, in depths unfathomed?

2. Then there were neither death nor immortality,
nor was there then the torch of night and day.
The One breathed mindlessly and self-sustaining.
There was that One then, and there was no other.

3. At first there was only darkness wrapped in darkness.
All this was only unillumined water.
That One which came to be, enclosed in nothing,
arose at last, born of the power of heat.

4. In the beginning desire descended on it-
that was the primal seed, born of the mind.
The sages who have searched their hearts with wisdom
know that which is, is kin to that which is not.

5. And they have stretched their cord across the void,
and know what was above, and what below.
Seminal powers made fertile mighty forces.
Below was strength, and over it was impulse.

6. But, after all, who knows, and who can say
whence it all came, and how creation happened?
The gods themselves are later than creation,
so who knows truly whence it has arisen?

7. Whence all creation had its origin,
he, whether he fashioned it or whether he did not,
he, who surveys it all from highest heaven,
he knows or maybe even he does not know.

Its the one of the oldest record of philosophical doubts about God and creation.

Hi, I believe in God and I'm curious--just like you. I ask questions related to the Bible, too. Curiosity is one of the many gifts from God when He created us. People believing in God definitely ARE curious, although they are not curious in the same way as you are. If they were NOT curious, they wouldn't have learned anything, right?

Because a believer is just that, one who believes. It's called walking in faith. Not everyone can do it. It is sort of like walking blindfolded on a high wire a believing that if you should fall there would be a safety net underneath you to catch you.And there have been historical documents and physical things to show Jesus actually walked the earth. As to the rest, I am content to wait until it is my time to remove my blindfold and get the answers straight from God's mouth.

again .. i take it by believers you mean Christians or other religions that have scriptures ... because not all religions do

i became part of my religion due to my curiosity .. i am logical and scientifically minded .. and even in my religion , i am continuously asking questions ( as my religion encourages us to do )
i do not know God exists but due to other factors and evidence i have gathered ... i have good reason to believe he does
this does not mean i am not still looking for proof and am happy just to " believe "
my religion has no book to quote from
