I guess the easiest way is:
4545 x 10,000 = 45450000
Then subtract 4545
45450000 - 4545 = 45445455 which is the correct answer.

Multiplying 4545 by 9999 is the same as adding 9999 no.s of 4545s. 9999 is one less than 10000. So for simplicity multiply 4545 by 10000 (you are adding 10000 4545s) and then subtract one 4545 for the correction!
