I live in the UK and according to a widespread continental theory, the reason why there is so many fat people in the UK is because the bread is somehow different over here. To you think it's true?
Another think I've spotted: The French eat croissants and pain au chocolat for breakfast, the Germans & Austrians cakes and doughnuts (yes, for breakfast, I've seen it!) and they are not fat? Why on Earth?

It's worth a try if anything! I love my bread and have tried to eat as much brown as poss. My friend was allergic to yeast and ballooned up like a beached whale. She had a blood allergy test done to reveal this. She' now a trim size 8. Good luck.

No, I don't think it's true, although for good health/diet it's better to eat wholewheat bread rather than the white. It's more important to eat a healthy, balanced diet and take plenty of exercise. Breakfast is important to kick-start the metabolism then make sure you eat regularly and that helps a lot I'm told. If you want to snack then choose fruit and veg. They say you should have at least 5 units of them per day, although some suggest now it's actually 8 units.

Tea is better for you than coffee and if you can drink it without sugar, that's good, otherwise do what I do and use sweeteners. I also use Sucron, which is like a powder you can use on cerial and has a quarter of the calories which sugar does. Semi-skimmed milk is best too. They say skimmed but to be honest, you may as well drink water if you're gonna use that! lol.

And for exercise, they say 10,000 steps a day is good, more if you have time or can manage it. You should feel warmer than usual and be breathing harder than usual but whilst still being able to talk. If you can't speak, you need to slow down.

Anyway good question. Doesn't really answer why there are more fat people in the uk or whether it's to do with the bread or not but hey, someone may find it helpful if they, like me, are struggling to loose weight! :)

I guess it depends on the individual and their body type. I cut out bread (and carbs) and lost over a stone. I have friends who have done the same and it worked for them also. But beware, the downside for me is that I can no longer eat bread or cakes - unless I want my bowels to have a workout! So be careful if you do, you may become intolerant. There again, that may just be me too! Good luck.

Bread makes you fat. End of story. So, if you cut out bread you'll propably lose weight (if your diet is healthy and you excercise a bit). In my whole life, I haven't eaten bread more than 20 times. I sometimes eat toasts though, but I buy the ones for people who are on diet or diabetics.

That sounds like complete piffle.

Moderate food, exercise and alcohol is the best way to maintain a health size/shape.

In the UK; too many people lead sedentary lives and eat/drink too much. It has little to do with bread

hey little friend. If you eat white bread it stays in your digestive system for 4 months in a que to poo. Brown bread on the other hand is out in 3 days, wholemeal 4 days. Eat one of those instead of white. Its much better for you x

I cut out all forms of potato and lost half a stone (8lb), and replaced sugar with sweeteners and lost another 8lb. Pastry is the worst thing, but a bit of granary bread is nice now and then.

it's your total caloric intake for the day and the amount of calories that you work off in that same day that determines your weight. eat 2,500 calories, burn off 2,500 calories, and you will maintain a steady weight. overeating and not exercising in some way is what will add the pounds to your body. if you don't work, don't have an exercise regime, and just don't move around much, lower your caloric intake. it's up to you what foods you want to eliminate in order to achieve this ideal, but it should be in the form of a healthy diet, if you want energy and a healthy body.

some people just don't put on weight, I hate that.its not fair.
you don't have to cut out bread completely, just have less, and go for BROWN BREAD.To lose weight many people think they have to eat 'SALAD,CHICKEN AND VEGETABLES' everyday and that's wrong. All you have to do is exercise plenty and eat what you want, but less of it..and aim for 1/5 l of water a day, this is your only answer.
