In SIngapore, i've seen school children (guys and girls) smoke. some are only 14 years old. my friends say the have seen even 9 year old kids smoke. why does the government do nothing about it? telling them its bad dosent seem to work. once, i heard this secondary school principal lecturing their students after morning assembly. it seemed that the principal knew that some students in that school are smokers. but principal only appeled to them not to smoke in school. thats all. sale of cigerattes are supposed to be for ppl above 18. but still teens posess them. they are still being sold to teens. why isnt nothing being done?

It's something very hard to do something about. Parents are a big influence too, if a kid sees their parents doing it then I think they are more likely to do it themselves. My husband says because the Government is payed by the tobacco industry to look the other way while they generate their ads toward kids.
But he smokes and so do 3 of our 4 son's and I truely believe if he didn't smoke they wouldn't be smoking. Our (youngest) 19 year old started about 6 months ago and I just found out about it (he has asthma and so does hubby~how stupid is that??)

unfortunatly, the governments world over make so much money from the tax on cigarettes they do not want to ban them altogether so they give out health warnings instead of stopping cigarettes getting into the countrys. i also have seen many young children smoking and as i smoke myself find it very difficult to tell them to stop but i only started because my friends were smoking aged 12 i felt it must be cool. one other problem is that taking away cigarettes will only give "rebels" an excuse to find something stronger and more dangerous to stand out amongst kids in there school.

they've actually done something

most countries alrady have a lot that stores can sell cigarettes to minors. but then again, the government cant monitor ALL the stores, right? so it really depends on the seller. If you know a store that sells cigarettes to minors then report it to your government

What can the gov't do? These walking chimneys hides and smoke. There is money to be made with cigarettes, thus the gov't wont make cigarettes illegal.
