It is a normal fuse where you put a peice of 5 amp wire through. It has blown 4 times, after about 10 minutes after changing, even though there is no lights switched on. I have checked switches for loose wires, but found none. but on one of them there is a green gooey substance on the wires. But the fuse first blew while i was stripping wallpaper with a steam stripper last evening!

There may be a short circuit somewhere on the line, or it is overloaded. If you don't know anything about electricity, call an electrician.

Now that you've given a bit more information............ I would guess that the switch in the room that you were steam stripping has got moisture into the switch which is now arcing to earth, if you replace the fuse and listen at the switch you may hear it arcing and then give a pop as the fuse blows. The solution is to remove the switch, WITH THE POWER OFF and dry any moisture from the back and from the box. If this does not cure it, you will have to replace the switch.
