This question has been flying around my circle of friends for a couple of years now so I'm hoping a movie buff can clear it up for me!

Who is the only actor to have starred in all three films of three different sets of trilogys?

Hi, thanks so much for all your answers so far! It's a wounder isn't it?

Loving yours GAR, but after putting it to the vote with my friends (fussy muppets they are!) they've voted a no on John Cleese because the Monty Python films weren't a successional story - you got me excited though!!!!

A new actor to throw in though, who ever played R2 D2 was in two of the Star Wars Trilogys. If anybody knows of anything else.......

Although its not technically an answer, i do have a place to start looking for those that are more paitent than me..
This is a list of ALL the trilogys ever made, and in most cases either a starring list or a link to the IMDB.

edit:-
After alot of searching i think we have a winner!!
The artist is:
*drum roll*
Jackie Chan!!

Wu Fu Xing - Winners & Sinners
Fuk sing go jiu - Winners & Sinners 2
Xia ri fu xing - Winners & Sinners 3

Rush hour
Rush Hour 2
Rush Hour 3 (Release date 2007)

and the police story trilogy

There we go ladies and gents.. three trilogys, three flms, one actor :)

I am with Baseballfan...i have been checking and checking and i have came up with many that he did but fell short of finding the answer...lots of darn its...almost:

Hugo Weaving has done LOTR trilogy, Matrix Trilogy and 2 Babe (yes the pig) movies.

Harrion Ford (of course)...Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and 2 Jack Ryan movies.

Ian McKeller did LOTR, X-Men

Almost Patrick Stewart who has X-Men and Star Trek

I keep thinking i am missing something (well i guess the answer)...it has to be an easier answer than my brain is doing.

Warwick Davis- 2 star wars, Lebrechaun Movies and Harry Potter Movies

Matt Damon comes close with Bourne Identiy and the Ocean movies (both in post production).

I give up for now....i have been here since the question was posted so i am going to live for a bit then come back tonight and hope someone found the answer :)

My intial thinking is Hugo Weaving... but I can only think of 2 trilogies for him...

Mel Gibson... Mad Max, Lethal Weapon & the christ movie that FELT really long.

Harrison Ford was only in TWO Jack Ryan Movies... but all three Indy Movies, and Star Wars.

Christopher Lee... was NOT in The Return of the King, nor was he IN Star Wars Episode 1.

I ALMOST thought it was James Earl Jones. He WAS in 3 Jack Ryan Films as the same character, Star Wars... Lion King 1 & 2... but NOT Lion King 1 1/2!

Mike Myers... Shrek, Austin Powers... but only TWO Wayne's World flix.

Michael J. Fox... Stuart Little & Back to the Future...

Ian McKellan... LoTR & X-Men, I guess Richard III doesn't count?

Tim Allen... Santa Clause and Toy Story

Matt Damon... Bourne & Oceans

Talia Shire... Godfather films and Rocky 1-5 (NOT a trilogy, of course.)

Sylvester Stallone... Rambo, Rocky and wasn't "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot" a trilogy?

Ok, so I cheated and did some checking... and you have me stumped. Who was in ALL nine films in three trilogies?

Harrison Ford

Star Wars: Episode 4 - 6 (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi)

Clear & Present Danger/Patriot Games (as Jack Ryan)
although Alec Baldwin played the part in The Hunt for Red October.
the prequel was played by Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears.

I know it may sound a little stupid but could it be John Cleese.
He was Nearly Headless Nick in 3 Harry Potter films; Q in 3 James Bond Films and was in at least 3 Monty Python films.

It isn't Harrison Ford. He was only in two Jack Ryan films (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger). Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck took the role in the other films.
Dunno off the top of my head, I'll have a think about it.
