Ah! Ah! I agree with you. We used to have a cat and in the winter she often stayed in the house at night. If she needed to go out in the morning, she would scratch at the bedroom door until she woke us and we let her out. If, however, she couldn't wake us, she would also jump into the bath to have a pee! We certainly never taught her, but it may be because she knew that water goes into the bath, so seemed like the best thing to do!! Certainly it's allowed; as you say, better than the carpet. I used to put a good dose of Domestos around the bath afterwards though!

I had a cat that did the same thing in the shower stall, so we put newpaper down and it did it on the paper. It was easier to clean the shower than the potty box. Cheaper to. I bought this plastic type tray that fit over the toilet put the paper in there and he would sit on the tray and go. I worked my way down to using some t'paper so all I had to do was flush it. This same cat use to only drink from the water faucet not from his water dish and he took the food from his food dish with his paw and ate from that.
I am serious no joke. I think he was human in his past life. He showed more table manners than my son.
Seriously though cats hate it when they have to scrape the cat litter and it has a B.M in it. The thought of taking a shower with pee in makes you clean it right away. Well, when your cat does it over the drain hole it gets cleaned right away. Did his potty box?

I have a cat that does almost the same thing, although my cat pees in the hand basin and poops in the bath tub. I don't mind this as he is not leaving any mess for me or my children to stand in.

He would have taught himself to do this, or he has watched someone human going to the bathroom and he is imitating this.

Cats are very clean animals. There are two possible reasons. 1. He saw you using the toilet and found a similarity between it and the plug hole; 2. He noticed water draining through the hole and figured it out. I have three cats, so I'm not joking one bit.

I got two cats that do this - it started when they were babies if the kitty litter had been used they would go in the bath - I love it, its so easy to clean!!

Now they are older, if we're going out we just leave the bathroom door open for them, saves a fortune on cat litter!

I think its just a sign of a clean cat. My cat if unable to wake me during the night will do the same thing and always has. I have to say id much prefer this to using the floor.

Used to have a cat that did the same. Only if he couldn't get outside though. I don't know who taught him but at least it's easy to clean up.

I think it would be most convenient for you.
I had a cat that used the toilet. I would get after
my son (he was about 6or7) for not flushing.
He swore up & down that he always did.
Then one day I heard "tinkle tinkle" I looked
in the bathroom and there was the cat, just
tinkling away.
I even got a picture of him doing it.
and I apoligized to my boy.

oh maybe he is thinking he has to do that because he doesnt want you to clean up after him , you got an amazing cat and let him do it better than cleaning the carpet!

what a clever cat. One of mine will occasionally do this. It should be allowed as he knows that you go in the bathroom and is only copying you if he cannot get to his litter tray. Very clever cat indeed. You should be proud of him.
