is there some kind of laundry detergent or something i can spray on the bed (other than bitter apple, because it gets all over me as well) to keep my boyfriend's dog from chewing up his sheets and comforter? discipline (yelling, growling, smacking on the nose, etc) does not seem to be working. it'd be nice if we could get him to not destroy his own dog beds and blankets also, as of now he has nothing in his crate other than a nyla bone.

The dog thinks he's alpha. You and your boyfriend have to become alpha. To do this, take away bedding and make him sleep in his crate bare. Go thru doors before him. If he tried to barge through, close the door. Make him watch you and not the door. Also, eat first, make him sit, then pretend to eat from his bowl before you give it to him. If he barks or isn't calm, wait. When he leaves his bowl, pick it up, even if there's still food in it. Call him to you to get him pets and love, don't do it if he comes to you and asks for it. Don't let him jump on you. You lead walks. If he pulls, get him a no-pull harness and wait for him to heel before you start.

Lock up the dog in it's own cage. Do not let the dog on the bed. Beds are meant for human beings and not dogs. I am very sure you and your boyfriend smell like your pet dog.

You do not state the dog's age....it might be a puppy phase, but I agree with the one who said your dog is trying to be alpha. Very good advice there.
Keep the dog out of your bedroom!
Try sprinkling black pepper around your bed....enough of it up his nose should do the trick.

Get him some chew toys! FAST! He is obviously bored. P.S. DO NOT EVER YELL AT OR SMACK A DOG! This is abuse. It is not the dog's fault that this is happening, it is your's.
