The problem with golf is that the technology has become so advanced. If the game were played with clubs of the 60's and 70's then perhaps Tiger would not be so great. I think that Nicklaus was the best of his time and Tiger is the best now. When you try and compare the two it doesn't work because of all the advances in technology. I just don't think you can compare. Tell you what you try hitting a golf ball with a club from the 60's and you'll see that it's harder to make good contact. I'm not trying to take anything away from Tiger but technology has made it easier for him. The clubs are part of the reason he can hit the ball so far. Years from now some young kid is going to show Tiger up and then they will say Tiger is the second best of all time. Years from now the clubs are going to be even more advanced, so hitting the ball farther and straigter is going to be ever easier. When it comes to rating golfers of different ages you can't say that so and so was the best because golf has changed much over these past 100 years.

No.

Reason?

Simple. He can't play in weather. Yes, he's won twice at St. Andrews on the Old.
I'd like to see him try in the winter though. Or the spring. Or the autumn.
The weather plays a huge part in golf, and as yet, Tiger hasn't demonstrated his mastery of that. Once he can do so, only then can he be great.

We are lucky to be able to watch Tiger in his prime - the world will never see such a phenom in the sport of golf - I love his toughness, his pursuit of perfection, his "clutchness", his mental approach to golf and how when he is on, nobody can beat him - he's ridiculous long, his irons are sick and his putting is unreal when he is hitting on all cylinders - the greatest of all time, for sure

He is the greatest of his era

He is playing next week at World Matchplay Championship in Wentworth, England - hoping to get that streak to 6 and equal his best streak

I'm not sure you can name the best of all time due to changes in the rules and advances in technology but that is what makes the argument fun
