Consider the feelings of the person you are talking to. And view your comments from their perspective, not your own.

If you think that what you are about to say to someone may hurt their feelings, stop and think whether there is a different way to say whatever it is. For example, if you are shopping with a friend and she is trying on dresses. She has tried on a few and asks you about a particular one which you think makes her look fat. You don't need to say 'Nah you look fat in that one!' - say something like, 'Well it's looks ok, but the blue one you tried on a few dresses back really looked gorgeous on you!' See, it's not that difficult really!
