It doesnt matter if they turn up late & do b*gger all. They will write the history books & take all the glory.
I read a US WW2 history book whilst at Uni in SA. It did not even mention the USSR & the sacrifice it made, nor the Brits, Indians, Canucks or even Springboks like my granpa.
The USSR won WW2 for 'the West', not a bunch of American generals!

(1) The United States was involved in the Second World War far before Pearl Harbor. Its Lend-Lease program and volunteer fighter pilots kept the British afloat during the Battle of Britain and the Battle of the Atlantic. Its support for Nationalist China led it to supply military advisors and fighter squadrons to fight the Japanese long before Pearl Harbor. Its final decision to impose a complete trade embargo on Japan guaranteed either the Japanese economy would crash in six months and it would no longer be able to wage war, or it would see itself fighting in the Pacific by the end of 1941. America was fighting long before there was a declaration of war by FDR.
(2) America has always had to overcome a strong isolationist bent; hence, its refusal to intervene for most of the First World War, or intervene in the Second World War when Nazi Germany invaded Poland and overran France and the Low Countries. It has always preferred using its mercantile muscle and sanctions to brute force whenever possible. For every conflict such as Vietnam, there are several examples of American embargos at work (Nicaragua, Cuba, Syria, etc).
(3) Showing up on time is entirely dependent on where the crux of the fighting is located, and how much strategic lift is available. Since the end of the Second World War, the United States has always had a problem providing enough ships, trucks, and planes to move its troops and equipment in a timely manner. It has attempted to compensate for this by using high tech means and a warfighting doctrine that stresses low numbers and high momentum, with mixed results. This is still by far better than most of the world. Very few nations have the capability to ship even a single Division worth to a distant theater of operations and keep it supplied.
(4) I understand you didn't ask so much a question as put out sarcastic commentary, but even the most cursory research with an unbiased mind should give you room for a better question than the trite one you put out here. Try again.

Now c'mon, make up your minds... either we are war mongers or we are late to the party. You can't have it both ways.
I'll tell you what... If there were another World War scenario someplace in the world other than on American soil, my guess would be that most Americans would say "screw 'em". Basically, isnt that what has happened to us?
I would venture a guess that there are millions upon millions of Americans that believe that there are very few countries worth saving *anymore*.
I for one know I have no desire to see our military be put in harms way to come to the aid of countries that have sold us out when the chips were down, so to speak.
Fortify our own borders, protect our own country. Let the fanatics and psycho's of the world do each other and you in. You want the US to be more pacifist? You got it!
Now, I know that isn't possible. We'll show up, we'll do what is necessary and then we'll pay to fix it all back up. THEN we'll be ridiculed after it is over. We are kinda use to it.
By the way, like it or not, we are there, World War III, it just hasn't been named yet. I can count on one hand the number of countries that have "shown up". Has yours?

There is and it has been since 9-11. Ironically, besides the Brits & Auses and a few other countries, the USA is the only other country there, to confront the Islamic Fascists. Of course, the Brits & Ausies are always ahead of the arrival time. By the time most of the countries get there, they have already been over-run because they like to SIT AROUND AND TALK AND APPEASE THE ENEMY.

OK, which is it? Is this another trick question, did you miss your meds, did you double (or triple) up on our stupid pills or competing with Forrest Gump?
There is no World War 3 regardless what the Democrats tell you (WWI & WWII were won by the allies 78 and 52 years ago).
Next time jump from a higher floor.

Doesn't matter if we show up early, late or on time. We'll end up bailing out the rest of the world... just like we always do.
Why is it that people who would otherwise be speaking German and goose-stepping to work always like to rag on America? Last time I checked, most countries didn't do a whole lot during the first two WWs other than sit around and get slapped like a $2 hooker on payday...

Well, if some people in our country have their way, no, we won't. It won't be until something REALLY catastrophic happens (like, say, a nuke detonated in one of our top ten largest cities) that people finally stand up and say, "Hey, maybe we should do something..."
I fear by then it may be too late.
"I know not which weapons will be used in WWIII, but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones."
Not an exact quote, but Albert Einstein said it.

Maybe this time, we'll let the French save the world. They have a FABULOUS record at being the stalwart savior. French hookers gave more cases of the clap to higher ranking German officers than all the other allied hookers combined.
