I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but I've contemplated it before.
Above all else, keep good tabs on your nutrition. This is important for everyone, but especially vegetarians - and especially, especially vegans. Humans can very easily live just on plant material, but it takes more work and from what I understand it can be easy to not get enough of one thing or another, particularly protein.
Remember that there are actually several different kinds of protiens. Do some research into what kinds of proteins humans need that omnivores get from meat and animal products. Certain combinations of plants can fill that gap just fine; you just have to find one that works for you.
And make the transference gradually; that's important for any large change of diet, both to let your body adapt and to let your mind adapt. Start with small things, say things you don't eat too often anyhow, and work your way up, eliminating your favorite meat products last of all.
I wish you lots of luck. :)

After watching the way animals are treated I quit right then and there and have not missed eating that filthy, full of antibiotic, steroid infested yuck anymore. I found the taste of soy meats to be so much better than the real stuff. The one great difference in the soy taco meat is that you can eat a taco without all that fat running down your arms...Try the soy meats, you will never crave meat again

If you really don't want to be eating it, don't force yourself to-just stop. Otherwise doing it gradually might work. If you look around on some vegan/vegetarian or nutrition sites, you will be able to learn what kind of things you need to be eating. Do what feels right at a pace that feels right for you. Good luck on your journey.
Meat-eaters concerned about plants being consumed should either stop eating meat and become fruitarians or shut the hell up.

I am a vegetarian myself. I don't eat eggs but I do eat dairy.
I you become a vegetarian now, I think you would have cravings for meat again sometime after.
There are many benefits of being a vegetarian.
I have been a vegetarian all my life and I have opened a whole new window to people who thought that being a vegetarian is impossible.
Good luck and enjoy if you want to become one.

Congratulations on being much wiser than the morons who are putting you down for asking this question.
I never craved meat once I stopped eating it - it disgusted me, and I feel so much freer not having to eat something so nasty.
What I did miss was something to put in a bun and put catsup and relish and onion on - once I discovered Morningstar Farms and Bocca Burgers, that problem was solved. In the US these are available in most supermarkets.
You really need to learn to cook your own meals. There are many good vegetarian cookbooks - look through a bunch of them and choose one that has a lot of dishes that sound good to you. Experiment!
If you eat out a lot, Burger King has a decent BK veggie burger. Indian, Thai, Italian and Greek restaurants usually have lots of good veggie dishes - but ask in the Greek and Italian restaurants about the specific dish you are ordering - some are made with meat stock or meat sauce even if the name of the dish sounds like just veggies. Indian and Thai food is very veggie-friendly, with no hidden meat. (Avoid most Chinese restaurants unless you can really communicate with the wait staff, as Chinese restaurants "finish" almost everything with chicken stock, even plain veggie dishes.)
I like tofu, and substutute it for chicken in a lot of recipes. It won't taste quite the same, but you'll probably still like the dish. All kinds of beans are good. Most pasta dishes can be made vegetarian just by leaving out the meat or by substituting "Burger crumbles" from Bocca or Morningstar Farms.
If you are sick of eating meat, then there is no reason to continue to eat it. Cutting down gradually accomplishes nothing unless you are giving up meat for moral purposes and feel it's a sacrifice, in which case you'll probably not stay veg for long anyway.
Try not to be preachy with meat-eating friends. Tell them firmly that you don't eat meat and then shut up about it, or you'll get a lot of heckling like you got here. I found that if I didn't try to change anyone else's diet, most people eventually gave up on trying to change mine.
Oh, one more thing - if you eat some dairy and/or eggs you don't have to worry about vitamin B12. If you are vegan (no dairy, eggs, meat or fish) then you should use an under-the-tongue B12 supplement - it's poorly absorbed from pills you swallow. It's totally untrue that you need to consult a doctor - you will be eating a healthier diet w/o meat.
Good luck - and happy corpse-free eating!

If you become a vegetarian, you will probably eat vegetables and imagine the look on the poor plants face also.

Sorry but if you really saw what you claim you wouldn't need help on turning veggie.
But wait until you see the faces of baby nuts when you are eating your nut cutlet, then you are really in trouble.

plants are living things just like animals. think of all the baby seeds you're eating that could've grown up to be bushes and trees. It's no different than eating an egg.
