Has anybody changed and not liked the drive so much? The car I want doesn't come with automatic. I have had BMW cars for the last 8yrs. I'm changing to an Audi rs4. It drives nice but I'm not sure about liking manual drive after being so lazy all these years. But I like the car and think its worth the sacrifice.
How often am I expected to forget to pull the handbrake up :D and does it all come back soon after driving it?

Going back to a manual car after years driving an automatic does take a short time to adjust to. Yet surprisingly enough everything comes back quickly. However, expect the odd time of forgetting to put the handbrake on. Maybe stall a few times as your clutch control might not be as sharp. Adjusting to changing up and down the gearbox again shouldn't be take long either.

If you're ever worried about not putting the handbrake on when parking a manual car an old trick I was taught was to leave the car in gear, obviously after turning the engine off. If there is a slight incline downwards use reverse gear and for an upward one any of the others.

I hadn't had a car for several years and hired one which was manual ,as only type available at the time I required it.
Did feel slightly nervous on several counts one being the fact of not having driven a car for over 3 years. Secondly the last time I had driven a manual car was over 10 years ago.

All I can say if the Audi is the car you want then going back to a manual is not a sacrifice. It's merely a case of adjusting yourself to driving a manual after all the years of driving automatic BMW's.

Am positive you will find it worthwhile and after a short time wonder why you were so concerned about driving a manual car again.

Like you, I went quite a while living soft and got a car with a manual so I had to get used to it. It really wasn't a big deal, even remembered the parking brake most of the time, but I did find a few things I really didn't like. One was continual shifting on hills. I don't believe you'll be as annoyed with your Audi as I was with my Toyota, hehe. Another thing was snow/ice. You may also be luckier there, as the Audi you've chosen is quite nice, and I'm sure very smooth, but I had trouble spinning the tires starting from a dead stop, especially up a hill or if stopped in with the tires turned. Last, it's not nearly as easy to rock a car if stuck in snow/ice or even a rut (I don't imagine your Audi will see many ruts, however, lol again). The one thing I'm sure you'll enjoy (that I didn't really see any sense in with my Toyota) is revving the engine at stop lights, or while coasting down hills, or heck, just sitting in your garage... (now laughing quite hard)... anyway, there are some drawbacks, but the driving itself came back, for me at least, with hardly any real attention paid on my part. The change shouldn't be much different than from one manual to another, just getting used to the sensitivity of the clutch... no worries, enjoy your new auto.

The manual gearbox is the biggest piece of cr*p man ever invented.
Stick with the BMWs.
You will soon get cheesed off with a manual geerbox.
I hated auto boxes in the 60s and 70s but they are reliable now
BMW`have fantastic autos why change to Audi.
Your biggest prob will be forgetting to dip the clutch when stopping

I just had this problem myself when I was given a company car for a while. It is like riding a bike, you never forget and things just seem to happen naturaly. You are right about the hanbrake though it is the one thing I had to keep reminding myself about.

If you are a man it will be easy. If you are a woman then you will be confused. A man will get used to it in about three seconds. A woman may or may not get used to it in about five years.

it will be horrible and you won't be able to remember how to drive a manual transmission. just buy the car and give it to me.
