Buddy will come down from the tree when he is ready (which will be when he is really hungry and thirsty). I know this sounds bad, but it is not I am a cat lover. Buddy is doing what cats do in the wild, the reason he is going further up the tree when someone gets near him is because he is scared and most likely does not know this person. Maybe if you know the cat you could go up the tree with a small amount of food and water, possibly leave it on a branch and he will come down slowly. Do this for the next few days, starting high in the tree and gradually coming closer to the ground and he may come down on his own accord.

Hope this helps.

You could get a ladder and rescue it, if you want to spend the rest of the cats life doing that. It will come down, cats climb all the time and when they climb up they do (eventually) climb back down. You could try putting food and water at the base of the tree, if the cat gets hungry enough he'll come down and hopefully stay down.

I asked a fireman this one once and he said he'd never seen a dead cat in a tree. I am convinced buddy will come down if he's hungry enough. However, if he does die, it was his day to die. No one dies before God call them home. It can't be that cold. It's only Sept 10! Maybe he'll be down in the morning. Good luck!

This is what my youngest cat did three times and this is how I got him down.

The trees in the backyards on our side of the street are more mature and difficult to climb because the first limbs are about 12 feet off the ground. So, I had my fiancee throw a softball with rope tied to it to the limb where Bailey was stuck. After the ball came down, I took that end of the rope and tied it a bucket with a small amount of food and water in a bowl and heaved it up to him. He was afraid to get in the bucket but he was hungry enough to find a way down. We had to do this three times in one summer but in different neighbor's back yards.

If you climb the tree to get him then he will "learn"...."If I'm stuck someone will come and get me."

Cats are natural climbers and usually end up in a tree because they were chased or were chasing something up the tree. But eventually they figure out how to come back down the tree. Give it a reason to come down and talk to him to calm him down. I know he is stressed but he'll figure it out. It just took my Bailey a little encouragement and patience and bribing.

Good Luck....

If Buddy made it up the tree, he can make it down. He may be scared but when he's miserable enough, he'll figure it out. Poor little guy.

If at all possible get a ladder and rescue it yourself, I have done that a few times. Call the cops and tell them a kids up a tree and can't get down... Call the newspaper with the same story .. YOU HAVE TO GET THAT CAT DOWN... BEFORE IT FALLS FROM SHEER EXHAUSTION AND DIES...

You posted this on the dog forum, too.

And I still don't get it. He's getting media attention, but no one's willing to help get him down? You would think the town's public services (firemen, shelter workers, etc.) wouldn't want the negative publicity.

But he should come down on his own. Believe me, sooner or later the hunger is going to be too much for him to handle, and he'll get his butt down one way or another.
