Hey, this is a serious question. I think my cat is constapated. She keeps getting in and out of the litter box, but she's not doing anything. She's been doing this for the past 3 hours. I would call the vet, but the office is closed. So, does anyone know of anything I can do for her? She's not eating anything different, I've kept her on the same food, so I don't think it's that. Well, thank you for your time. :)

OK---do you feed her dry or canned food? Dry food is high in "ash" content and can cause urinary tract blockages. Has she peed recently? A urinary tract blockage in a cat is serious and is worth a visit to the emergency pet clinic if you have one to get the cat catheterized. A cat will exhibit the same signs you are describing---they will get in and out of the litterbox but nothing will happen.
It may be simple constipation---when was the last time she pooped and peed? Urinary tract blockages affect male cats much more often than females because the male's urinary tract is longer and thinner than the females.
So if she's peed recently, its probably simple constipation. I'd go buy a can of the tuna packed in oil and give her the oil and tuna juice--maybe even some of the tuna! That should get her going again if its just constipation.
Best of luck! Could you post something later to your question to let us know how she's doing? Thanks.

She could have a hairball blocking her up or maybe she ate a small toy she shouldn't have. So if she doesn't "make" by morning you really should try and get a hold of your vet she might have to get an enima to flush out what ever has got her stopped up. Or it could be a urinary track infection if she happens to use the box and she only pees check and see if its a normal amount or just a little and check for blood. And either way you should ask your vet about it ASAP. Good luck and I hope it turns out to be nothing.

NO, Do not called a vet that extra bill. Now this is what you should do: Step: 1 Go to the store a buy worm medicine for cats. Go to Wal-Mart. Step:2 heat a warm milk into the bowl. Step: 3 use 2 drops every 4 hours. make sure the cat drinks plenty of water, after giving the drops. After 4 hours is up repeated again. After the second repeattion the only thing you can do is what. My daughter cat was like that.

use cod liver oil in its food and this will loosen the bowels and does not have any side effects. are you sure it is her bowels. this can be a number of things. if she is not urinating this can be an infection or blockage in the urinary tract and this would be typical symptoms of feeling the need to go often. if it is her bowels. there can be several things going on including some kind of blockage, you can also get a laxative at any pet store or at walmart. this can help, make sure she has plenty of clean water and is drinking. also feed her some wet food for awhile. as cats that are on a dry diet along with licking them selves tend to get things balled up inside due to not enough moisture in the diet. also could be a kidney infection in which she will need to be on antibiotics asap, if she does not improve within 24 hrs. get her to the vet asap good luck and keep us posted

Hairballs can cause an intestinal blockage. Run down to the pet supply store and get some hairball remedy. It comes in something like a toothpaste tube, and you just put it on their mouth and they lick it off. It's basically a kitty laxative!
If there is no relief, you'll need to take her to the vet. It'll tell you what to watch for on the medicine package. I've used petromalt on my cats for years.

I've heard that you can give cats a drop or two of maple syrup on their tongues and that will make them go to the bathroom. If she's a nice cat and will let you, rub her tummy, I think that helps. At ny rate if she hasn;t gone pooh by the morning, call a vet. Good luck.

Put a bit of butter on the tip of your finger and let her lick it off. It may also be a urinary tract infection. Get her to the vet straight away as soon as they reopen. Good luck.

try laxatone, you can get it at a pet store. if she stops eating, you definitely need to call the vet. mine got that way and i had to have his colon removed. he had a condition called megacolon. it happens mainly in male cats at around age 5 yrs. i'm not trying to scare you but it could be serious. if she is still doing this monday, i would take her to the vet. good luck!

Make sure your cat has lots of fresh water. Also cats love the tuna fish juice squeezed out of the can and into a shallow dish that they can drink from. The oil may "grease the skids" and it's also good for their coat. Good luck!

Is your litterbox clean? I know that my cat will do this sometimes because he will smell the stuff in the litter box and feel the need to cover it up.
