ok, so i heard that the only way to get rid of the blisters is to take the pills that they give you, but is there something that you can use in the meantime? is there a home remidy to get rid of the blisters? i'm in a lot of pain, and the appointment with my doctor isn't for another week. if someone can please help me i would really appreciate it.

Unfortunately there is nothing over the counter to help with the blisters.

The only over the counter medications that may help with the pain are medications like Ibuprofen or Tylenol. This will only help you with the pain and will not make the blisters disappear. The blisters can heal on there own without medication but this can take weeks and weeks! Best thing to do is take some pain medication and wait to see the doctor. You might want to even ask them to prescribe you some pain killers like Vicodin or Tylenol with codeine. I was in SO much pain during my first outbreak I was prescribed Vicodin along with acyclovir for the genital herpes.

Some things that helped me during my first outbreak was taking A LOT of bathes, blow drying your genital area dry (I know, it sounds stupid but it works) and to wear real soft under-ware and pants. Don't wear any tight fitting pants or under-ware, it'll just irritate you more.

Good luck to you!

I have not personally tried this, but one of the moderators on webmd said it was ok to use Solarcaine spray to alleviate the pain. I believe she said to use the kind with the blue label, not the red.

A blow dryer helps too. Just be careful not to blow it directly on the affected area. It could burn. Also, I say the dryer you can keep the area the better, baths cause trouble.
