On Nov 10, the washed -up (and I'm being kind) Evander Holyfield is fighting Fres Oquendo.
This will be on PPV at a cost of $44.95.
Do not buy this fight.
It is time for the boxing public to put or collective foot down. This mismatch should not be happening, but now that it is, it should be on Friday Night Fights. If that.
PPV is out of control, and it's hurting the sport of boxing. Promoters and TV networks have come to the cynical realisation, correctly, that if they market any garbage properly, that there will be enough suckers out there to buy it.
Even if it's to watch a 43 year old man chase a dangerous fantasy and put his health at risk.
Folks, you're being taken advantage of and it's hurting everybody. Every time someone shells out money for this kind of crap, it gives the powers that be the green light to charge more money for the next mismatch.
If not for the good of boxing, do it for Evander Holyfield.
Don't be complicit in his self - destruction

Yeah, Ric - it's on FoxSports. Thus Friday. Guess they need the money.

Evander is one of my all-time favorite fighters, but I agree completely. I generally think you shouldn't buy *any* PPV of a fight that really should be on free TV. I'm all for financially supporting the fights that deserve it, but the best thing for the sport is to limit PPV fights to the best matchups.
The problem is that even if no one buys the fight--and I can't see a huge buyrate for it in any circumstance--if Evander wants to keep fighting he'll find a place to do it. The big boxing TV players--HBO and Showtime--wanted no part of his fight so he fought on FoxSports. There's enough media outlets now that Evander can find *somewhere* to show the fight. And even if he doesn't get TV coverage, he can find a venue and fight without it. He's got enough bank to promote himself and finance his own fights.
It's a shame, but Evander can keep boxing until he wises up or until he's unable to do so.

What are you talking about? I'm buying it, after he brutalises Fres "70's Show" Oquendo, I say 1 more fight, maybe Calvin Brock, then off for ANY of the champions. $44.95 seems pefectly reasonable too, this fight is a big deal. Nobody thought Holyfield could come back, HE'S ALREADY ON PPV!!! That should shut the Holyfield haters up. Even at his age he is the most incredible fighter ever. When he had "heart problems" and came back people said he couldn't do it. If there is anybody out there who is reading this and thinking that I am serious, you don't know me very well, I am only joking. Are you sure it's on PPV though? 11/10/2006 comes up on a Friday, not Saturday. IDK, Anyone who pays for that fight is either stupid enough to lose 44.95 or want to see Holyfield get hurt. This fight is of little interest to me. I am stupid enough to pay to see Mason "The Line" Dixon vs "The Itallian Stallion" Rocky Balboa. Both are about as stupid as the other, but Rocky is cheaper.

Bravo! I totally agree with you! Evander Holyfield had one victory in years over a unknown insurance salesman who i could've probably beaten. He looked dreadful in his previous fights against James Toney and Larry Donald(yes, Larry Donald, yikes!) and now he's suddenly a pay per view attraction again? And for $44.95? I wouldn't pay $4.95 to see this, and i'm a Holyfield fan! Sure, he looked better than he had in years in his last fight, but my mailman could've beaten that guy! As soon as he fights someone who will actually FIGHT him, he'll get knocked out. I love Holyfield and i wish he would retire before he gets seriously hurt or killed in the ring. Can he really win the title again at 44? I doubt it! Everyone points to George Foreman beating Michael Moorer to win it a the age of 45, but Big George stiil had punching power even at that age cause that's the last thing to go on an aging fighter. And Moorer being stubborn and not moving away from Foreman's power as his trainer Teddy Atlas wanted him to played a major role in him getting knocked out, and let's not forget that Moorer was winning that fight easily until he got ko'd. My point is that Holyfield is not a one punch knockout fighter and he relies more on skill and wearing you down. And his skills are all but gone. But with the heavyweight division being what it is today, he still will spark interest because he has a name. But PPV? How about PBS!(or FOX,or,CBS,or ABC, anything free!) We,as consumers have the power, just don't buy it!

Evander on PPV..... awesome, welcome to 1992 guys!!!!!
Wow, this is a joke, Holyfield has been slurring his speech since 1996. Well, every generation needs it's Muhammed Ali, here is ours.
And by the way, shame on whomever cleared Holyfield medically to fight.
