Not usually.

Genital herpes is mainly passed by sex, but, it can be passed by just direct skin to skin contact with the area.

I've read chances of a baby being born with herpes from a mother who has it are less than 1%. It's REALLY rare to be born with herpes. Not that it doesn't happen, it's just rare.

To get genital herpes a person has to have some sort of sexual contact with someone who has genital herpes. Genital herpes can be spread even if the person is not having an outbreak (that's how I got it!). It can NOT be spread by toilet seats, pools, showers, etc.
