Even when I take great care to sanitise myself every time? If it can pass on person to person, does that mean I'll pass the virus whoever I touch, be it his/her clothes or face? I'm really confused. If it really does spread by just little skin contact, then wouldn't I be condemned by the society? I've been feeling rather depress lately because of this. Does that mean I can no longer have skin contact with my friends?

So if I keep myself as hygienic as far as possible, even shaking people's hands won't spread the virus?

Anyway, I used to be a massage therapist and I've stopped completely because of this. Can I still massage people?

Although warts in general are a fairly easy to spread virus, you have to remember the other person has to also have "vulnerable" skin for the virus to enter.
In general skin on your hands and body is designed to keep stuff out pretty well. For example we have millions of bacteria living on our bodies all the time, but we rarely get infections in our skin, even when we get a cut, it only rarely gets infected, but that is bacteria we are talking about. Our bodies are very good at "kicking their butts"
Viruses are a little more tricky, they enter in our own cells, kind of like a "wolf in sheeps clothing" and trick our defenses. Thats why our bodies can be more vulnerable to them.
Still for genital warts to be spread "casually" (non sexually) you would need to have your hands well "inoculated" like from scratching a wart or picking at one. Then you would have to touch another person who had a break in their skin, like an abraision, scratch, cut or open scab (or mucus membrane like eye, nose, etc.. The virus would have to enter that "open" skin area, and their immune system would have to "miss" it, and allow it to develop into a wart of it's own.
As you can see, it would be possible, but it requires a chain of specific events. There have been cases of this happening, but they are really pretty rare.
If you have good hand washing habbits and avoid touching other people's open wounds (unless you have universal precautions like gloves), then you and the other person should both be safe from each other's potential "cooties".
Also don't feel so worried about a "stigma' with warts. up to 80% of the adult population have one of the HPV viruses. Not all of them form the warts, but it is the same virus. It is very common. The most common std.
The thing you should be concerned about, is that if you have one STD, the doctor should always be aware to check for others. If your physican has already done that you should be fine.
I hope that helps you.

HPV can be passed from person to person even when there are no visible warts or other symptoms. Skin near the warts and around the genitals, anus, and other areas can pass the virus from one person to the next.
Please see the webpages for more details and images on Human papilloma virus (Genital warts).

If you have genital warts you have to have direct skin to skin contact with your genital area with someone. So, if they were to have sex with you, "dry hump", rub your genital area with their hand, finger you, etc, that could all cause them to get genital warts or warts on their hand.
The only way you would pass warts to a person by just shaking their hand is if you had them on your hand (even this is pretty rare).
You CAN NOT pass genital warts to someone by just touching their clothes or something. Genital warts is only spread by direct skin to skin contact with the area and by sex.
***Yes, as long as you wash your hands everytime you touch your genital area you should be fine. I lived with my parents and two younger brothers when I had genital warts and I NEVER passed genital warts to them.
Also, having genital warts shouldn't stop you from being a massage therapist. As long as you don't have them on your hands or are constantly touching your genital area and not washing your hands. If you maintain proper hygiene you won't pass it to others.

if you keep your hands clean, you will not spread any HPV. Your whole body does not shed the virus, only genital area does that. Pl. read more- http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/ds/genitalwarts/
