Most docs strongly encourage you to get tested early in the pregnancy. That way you can get early treatment and prevent complications in the baby. You wouldn't want to pass something like HIV to the baby, or cause the baby to have preventable birth defects because of an STD. Additional tests are done in late pregnancy to make sure that the baby does not get an infection from the birth canal - like herpes and B strep.
An HIV positive mother that takes medication to reduce the HIV virus in her blood stream can dramatically reduce the chance of passing the virus to the baby. The earlier the mom is tested the better. A c-section also reduced the risk to the baby of getting HIV. (and herpes if the mom is infected)

I got diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 6 yrs ago, when I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. I understand lots of young ladies will declare this, but I swear I had certainly not done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/1Zrm0 everything changed.
Not only was I able to remove all remnants of the herpes virus from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy cafe, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This system provided the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to help you too by sharing this with the World.

During an initial pregnancy exam most OB/GYNs and clinics will test for STDs because some, such as syphilis, can be harmful to a fetus during pregnancy.

First appt they will take lots of blood and test you. You have to sign a consent form for the HIV test. It is good to get it, because they can start you on drugs to help with the virus. They will also be more careful when delivering to reduce transmission to the baby. If you are positive.

HIV is a voluntary test. You don't have to be tested if you don't want to.
Syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia are done fairly early in the pregnancy. And if you're positive, they're repeated after the treatment.

Recommened to check when you are diagnosed you are pregnant, but any one can deny. Need prior consent from mother. No one can force.
