No, all abnormal cells are NOT cancerous. Many of the cells that can be present due to HPV just clear themselves by your next pap smear (providing you go back for one 1-3 months within the abnormal test instead of waiting an entire year). If the cells are still there on your next pap, they will do cryosurgery (freezing the cells off...not as bad as it sounds) and I'm sure you will be fine. Here's hoping the abnormality just goes away on its own.

By the way, I know 2 women how had abnormal cells during their pregnancy and just after and it ended up being hormone related and cleared up on their own. Don't worry, ok? : )

Just because a pap smear is abnormal does not mean it's cancerous cells. Sometimes pap smears can come back abnormal and there is absolutely nothing wrong. Others times they might come back as pre-cancerous or even cancerous.

I have personally had two pap smears come back abnormal the last 5 years. The first one was pre-cancerous which eventually turned into cervical cancer. The second one, about a year and 1/2 later, turned out to be absolutely nothing.

If your doctor says you have nothing to worry about then chances are you probably don't. Stay on top of your health though and get a pap smear done at least once a year. Pap smears are the best thing a women can do to detect any early signs of cervical cancer, like abnormal cells on the cervix. Good luck to you!

I had a bad PAP smear once that had abnormal cells. They told me that I could have HPV which causes cervical cancer. Needless to say, I was feeling much as you are now, considering I was only 18 at the time.

I will tell you my story and hopefully it will help. I went to a specialist who preformed a biopsy. It wasn't that bad, a little pinch when they cut out a section to examine. Then I waited... it took about 3 days to get the results (the longest 3 days ever).

They told me that the cells did have HPV, which could turn into cervical cancer. But here's the good news... it can go away on its own.

So, about a year later when I got pregnant, they did an STD examine. I made sure to mention the previous abnormal PAP and guess what?? It went away on its own!!!

Moral of the story, don't stress yourself. Even if you do have HPV, with a healthy lifestyle it can go away on its own!!! You don't neccessaily have cancer

Not all abnormal cells are cancerous. They are graded at different degrees of seriousness. Some cells are only small changes but if left CAN lead to cancer, not definitely.

If your Dr has said it's not serious then you must believe that. At least you have been going for your tests and they have found this now at an early stage. Millions of women have abnormal changes and all can be fixed and returned to normal with simple medical intervention.

I can understand you are worried, people automatically think of cancer and death but it sounds to me that you are over worrying. Go for your test when it is due and beat it.

Good luck.x
