I like Indian and Thai restaurants; they always have good vegetarian choices that really have NO meat. Most Greek and Italian restaurants have good vegetarian choices, but you need to ask to be sure - "beans and greens" in Italian restaurants, for example, usually is made with meat stock.
I avoid Chinese restaurants unless they have a separate Vegetarian menu, as they usually use chicken stock in all their "vegetable" dishes. If the wait staff is really fluent in English, you can ask, but most stuff that sounds like it should be vegetarian in Chinese restaurants is not, and Chinese waiters may not understand your questions.
For fast food I buy BK Veggie burgers at Burger King or go to Pizza Hut. Arby's has a baked potato with broccoli that's okay. Since I do eat eggs once in a while, I sometimes go to diners that serve "breakfast all day" and get an omelet or pancakes.
Until you know a restaurant's menu, keep asking - don't assume that something that sounds vegetarian isn't made with meat stock or lard. Except Indian and Thai places - they are safe.

There's a Thai place near me that can make anything vegetarian but I love the steamed veggies over brown rice with peanut sauce.

My ABSOLUTE favorite restaurant is called Restaurant August in New Orleans. I also like Juban's in Baton Rouge and Tsunami...that one is a really cool sushi place.
I really am sorry, but I don't know of any vegetarian restaurants around here...I'm a total seafood junkie.

I don't trust anything that doesn't come from my own kitchen. Restaurants have far too many germs & people who cut corners & often violate the vegetarian & vegan food guidelines.
