Absolutely, yes! When you talk about smoking, you talk about risks. While a person with a 90% chance of having a heart attack may not have one, and a person with a 10% chance of having a heart attack, may have one, why would anyone in their right mind choose to increase their risk of having heart disease, or lung cancer, or emphysema, etc. Yes, there are genetic defects that predispose to emphysema, and there are certain cancers that nonsmokers get, but why take the risk. Also, nonsmokers cancer is usually a kind called adenocarcinoma. Smokers is a kind called small cell lung cancer. I cannot say anything about most populations, but in the hospital where I work, almost all of the heart attack, stroke, and cancer patients have some history of smoking. Smoking Kills!

Smoking does not kill you. I have never heard of a cigarette, cigar or pipe which actually wielded a gun or a knife, or smacked you round the back of the head with a baseball bat.
What kills people is cancer, emphysema etc, which some would have you believe is exacerbated by smoking tobacco. It possibly is, but bear in mind that non-smokers who have never been exposed to even second-hand smoke and who live in jungles in primitive conditions also die from cancer.
Every human has a time bomb in their bodies called cancer. It goes off when it wants, or it doesn't bother at all and you die in bed at a ripe old age.
17 year-olds occasionally die from heart attacks, so do fit professional sportsmen. So no - it does not tell me anything.

I don't smoke and never have but I'm not sure I agree with your thesis. Smoking certainly doesn't seem to be healthy and I don't recommend it but to say that smoking will kill you is a stretch!
Life is full of choices, to smoke or not to smoke, if someone choses to smoke - and accept the liability - then its their choice.
Medical types are quick to blame smoking for alot of ills, perhaps your friend would have had heart disease without smoking. Who really knows. Without being mean, were there other livestyle issues that affected their health? Obesity is a major cause of heart problems. If it was their choice to smoke, it was their decision.

Cigarette smoking kills nonsmokers too! Second hand smoke is toxic!! Not to mention the dangers of driving while someone else out there is fumbling with a cigarette. About as bad as cellphones!

it does kill, my daughter's husband passed away at age of only 42. We considered him a normal smoker, nothing very heavy.
