I think a lot of people are misinformed and hear stories about the virus and jump to conclusions. I can't stand it when I see stupid questions like "can I get HIV from headphones?". I mean come on...that just shows how misinformed people are about this virus.

The doctors wearing the gloves I could understand though, especially if she was getting something done like a pap smear or she was bleeding or something. As far as swimming though, that shouldn't be an issue.

Bottom line, I think it's just people not educating themselves about the virus.

Well that's terrible about the swimming, but the Dr.s and nurses, have to put gloves on, that's nothing unusual. Actually it is much better that when AIDS was first discovered. People were treated real bad. Tell your friend that you will educate yourselves together about AIDS so you can clue a few people in on their misconceptions about the disease. Sorry

People automatically relate HIV or AIDS with sex or needle use. That the people that have the disease must have had unprotected sex with a drug users or something like that. I am sorry to hear how your friend is being treated. People are still very uneducated when it comes to HIV or AIDS. That is why no one wants to swim with her. It is horrible that people with this disease are suppose to let others know. Why so they can be treated this way. That is too bad to hear. God Bless your friend. It is wonderful that she has you.

Hi. What a wonderful friend you are. I would be proud to have you as a friend. Your care for your friend is fabulous. This attitude is not uncommon and it's caused by fear. The fear of the unknown. Understanding what happens when people contract this disease can be difficult. They treat her like crap because they believe she will infect them. They don't want to go swimming because they are scared. The doctors and nurses are obliged to wear protective clothing because of the possibility of blood spill. It's not because they don't like her, but it is known as protocol and is absolutely essential. If you keep treating your friend the way you are, you will give her reason to keep hoping. You're terrific.
