Firts, Are you sure it was a risky situation? I mean are you sure that the other person is HIV positive, if so... the Elisa test is going to be 100% at month number 6, but at the third month is 97%, that means for each 1000 people that get hiv 30 will develop later that three months.... So enjoy life and get another two months later.. just for control.

It depends on what state you live in, and how they define the window period. Most states now use only a 3 month window period. The testing technology has improved quite a bit.

The window period is the time it takes from exposure to HIV and when your body produces enough antibodies to show up on a test.

Find out what the period is in your state. The test counselor should have told you this when you got tested in the first place. If you've only had that exposure, have not put yourself at risk from then on - you should be fine.

You need to go back after 6months and get tested again. Then after 1 year as well. If both are negative, then you will be okay. The virus has an "incubation" period of about 6 months.

If you are extremely worried, get tested every year with your pap test. Usually if it doens't show up within 36 months, you are okay. Good Luck.

I was told by a doctor that the tests they now have are much more sensitive and if a person was to test positive it would most likely show up after 3 weeks and after 3 months it's conclusive. Don't panic. You should be fine.

I would say you are ok. My doctor told me that when they are stuck with contaminated needles they are required to get tested up to one year after the possible exposure to the virus. After one year you are fine. I am not sure why people like to scare others and make up longer amounts of time. It is ridiculous. The tests are very accurate and can pick up the antibodies usually within 1 month after exposure. Relax I am sure you will be just fine.
