When Julia Child was interviewed, she was asked one food she didn't like.
She quickly replied: "Cilantro, I hate the stuff, can't stand the smell."

It's not at all new, I'm afraid. They've used it Mexican food just about forever. I've also used/had it in Thai food for quite some time. I personally love it but everyone's taste is different. For some dishes, you might be able to request they not add it (like not finish Pad Thai w/ cilantro), but you'd probaby run into a bit 'o trouble asking them to de-cilantro your salsa!!

Cilantro is the herb of Satan. I despise it! You can order food without it, I always do.

I am not to keen on it either. However, I was in Mexico and was eating some menudo. I had to pour two mixing bowls of cilantro into the soup to cover the awful tripe smell.

If you like and eat salsa, it DOES have cilantro. If you don't like it, don't eat it! It really is healthy and does enhance the flavors of the recipes that have it as one of the ingredients.

Not me... I love the stuff... But it's not new. It's been in all kinds of dishes for as long as I can remember....

Cilantro is the leaf part of the coriander plant... I like the flavor I get from adding coriander seeds to dishes too...

It's the soapy flavour and the way it repeats on you, it's horrid!
Really, if it were used in moderation, it wouldnt be SO bad, but it's OVERPOWERING!
if you find you have eaten cilantro, eat some parsley. it helps...

yowza

Yikes ...If only it did taste like soap, that would be a big improvement.....Cilantro must be an aquired taste...It's just plain nasty to me..!!

I like it when used sparingly. If it is added too much it then makes it too strong, and some dishes would taste better without using it!

Thanks for the advise. I wanted to thank you personally. Reading all the answers brought tears to my eyes and a realisation.
I am taking my mother for a huge breakfast in a good restaurant tomorrow for a start.
