Lantus (glargine) is a basal insulin. It will help maintain a basal level of blood glucose. Lantus is normally combined with a short term insulin such as humulog. Changing lantus levels alone will not help maintain insulin levels. Combining lantus and a short term insulin with blood testing is the only way to get long term control.
