My friend and I customarily wrestle with each other (no hostilities, nothing severe, but the wounds are real)--can HIV be transmitted by the wounds bordering her fingernails?

Only if either one of you has AIDS there is a small risk factor. But the main way AIDS is spread is through transfer of one persons (with AIDS) blood into another person blood stream. Say if that person bled and you had a cut or abrasion it could transfer if that persons blood were to come in contact with your cut etc.
But I am assuming that you friend doesn't have AIDS - if they did you should not be fighting/playing around taking chances.
