I had about 2 cold sores on my lips so far. So that means i have herpes type 1. I don't know how I got them. I am not sexually active right now, nor i gave an oral sex or recieved an oral sex from someone, or kissed anyone before. But my question is if in the future I get married, will I be able to have sex and have children ?

About 80% of the world has cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1). It's really not as uncommon as most people think.

Cold sores and genital herpes are two different types of the virus and are spread different ways. They are both herpes and both herpes simplex virus 1 and herpes simplex virus 2 can cause both cold sores and genital herpes. Cold sores are typically herpes simplex virus 1 though, while herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes.

If you have cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) you should have NO problem having sex or having children. It's possible that you can give your future boyfriends or husband cold sores and even your future children cold sores though. Cold sores are usually passed by kissing someone, but you can also get them from sharing a drink with someone who has cold sores or even chap stick, lip stick, or a cigarette. So if you were to kiss one of your future children you could pass it to them.

Genital herpes (herpes simplex virus 2) is transmitted by sex and direct skin to skin contact. Since you don't have HSV2 you don't have to worry about this. Even if you did have it, chances of you passing it to a future child through childbirth are very slim. I've read less than 1% of babies born to mothers with genital herpes actually get the virus.

Some of these answers are great! But you do need to go to a doctor and have the herpes typed. It is very possible that you could have HSV 2 orally. Even if you have never performed oral or done anything at all. It's quite possible that someone that you have either shared chapstick with, drank after, or even kissed could have HSV2 from performing oral on an infected person, and gave it to you through contact. They might not have even know it, because it is possible to spread herpes without even having an outbreak. Be very cautious about this. You can still spread the virus even if you are not having an outbreak, it's called "shedding". You can also be born with the virus. But it's not the same as chicken pox contrary to some peoples beliefs. Chicken Pox is a different strain as well as shingles. They are all part of the "Herpes Family" but not an STD.

regardless of what others may say it is HSV1, it's nothing to be alarmed about though. You can still lead a normal, healthy, happy life with it. You can have children, and sex also with protection of course. Don't take everyone else's advice though. If you haven't been sexual and still have cold sores, talk to your doctor and just get it looked at if you are worried. Many people think of herpes and think it some disgusting dreaded thing, when it really isn't and doesn't have to be. Like you many are ill-informed of the disease. Many like you don't know they have it or how they got it. but 1 in 4 people walking around has some form of the disease, and disregard it because they reason it's just a cold sore, look at some of the responses you got back. They are wrong. Maybe that is how they have justified bumps on their lips or other parts, by denying they have it, and sayin it's just a cold sore. It is but it isn't. If you do decide to become sexually active do the responsible thing and let your partner in on your little secret. That way you aren't putting someone else at risk.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

Cold sores are caused by Herpes Simplex. You get the virus from having chicken pox as a child. The virus remains in your nervous system all your life. Herpes Simplex is NOT Genital Herpes, however you can transmit the virus thru oral sex if you have an active lesion on your lips. When your lips break out, get some Abreva creme (at any drugstore) apply as needed until the sores heal, usually about two weeks. Avoid kissing and oral sex when you have an active lesion. Keep your hands clean and away from active lesions and you should be fine. No reason not to marry, have kids, and enjoy your partner, just use some common sense when you have an outbreak.

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about four years ago, whilst I was still in college and had a silly one-night stand. I understand lots of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/k8Bf2 everything improved.

Not only was I able to eradicate all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This program gave me back the chance to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

yea just because you have cold sores doesn't mean you have an STD. Everyone gets them. the flu, colds, kissing someone with a cold sore. your family having a cold sore and you drink out of the same cup. These are all examples on how to get them. But because you have one don't mean any thing. over time give it 2 weeks and it will be gone. I know it is called herpes type 1 but its only a scientific way to say you have a cold sore.
