I agree with whoever said not to carry the theme over to food... or at least, don't go to far with it. For one, I doubt even the most observant party-goer would notice that your bread has black poppy seeds or your mashed potatoes have a black gravy. I do think that some foods might be more appropriate than others (plain sushi, black/white cookies), but for the most part, I'm willing to bet the food idea would be lost on many.

Secondly, that limits your menu tremendously and that alone can really make for a lame party.

I'd stick to focusing on the decor (including invitations), lighting, and attire.

If you must incorporate the theme into your menu, try sticking to one or two feature items (e.g. plain sushi) or having one "black/white table" where you'll put a few black/white dishes or desserts.

Bake an Oreo cheesecake.
Serve white chocolate
Serve dark chocolate in alternating order with the white.
Serve chocolate ice cream with white chocolate dipped strawberries

Oreo Cheesecake

18 Oreos, crushed in blender
1/4 cup melted butter
24 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 14 ounce can condensed sweet milk
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix Oreos and butter and press in a greased 9 inch spring form pan. In a large bowl, cream remaining ingredients until well blended. Pour into spring form pan. Break up 8 Oreos and drop on top of the batter. Bake 45 to 60 minutes at 300F. Don't bake till it cracks. Cool to room temperature and chill in refrigerator before removing pan.

Great theme - I would use black olives and white cocktail onions in a martini. Use black & white paper goods, serving platters.

Get tiny gift sacks in black & white (Card & Party factory, Hobby Lobby and Walmart sell them) - Put in party favor ( could be oreos, licorice and mentos - whatever - fold the top over and hot glue a black domino on the fold-over to hold it closed. Display these on a tray (I did this for my hubby's 50th birthday party and they looked so elegant and fun - everyone kept talking about them.)

A black top hat turned upside down with black and white flowers is a stunning centerpiece. On your food table lay down black velvet (or velveteen) for a tablecloth then scatter dominoes, black & white playing cards - gorgeous!

Make votive candle holders by going to a dollar store (where they sell those votive candle holders cheap) - spray paint these black -then buy those white circle stickers (office supply) and stick these randomly on the holders -voila - black & white candle holders (one of these in your little bag - would be an excellent party favor).

Black and white linens and napkins, small foods of black and white color. Black and white M&M's for snacks, black and white cookies, and other black and white foods. Get some nice linens and send out black and white invitations indicating dress to be in black and white. Carry the theme throughout

its easy all u have to do is put every thing in categories . start with the invites then the place u are going to have this party. since polkodots are in fashion now and strips it would be easier to decorate in the black and white theme. u print stripe or polko invites with the theme mentioned as effective as possible. then u think about decorating in stripes or polkodots. use black and white plates cups napkins and serve food that can also fit in with the theme . then make sure in the invites it is noted that either black and white stripes or polkodots are worn by everyone. it would be a great theme.

Tuxedo strawberries! Dip strawberries in white chocolate, chill to harden the chocolate, then dip each side of the berry in dark chocolate to form a 'V" on the front (like a tux jacket), then take a pastry bag with a tiny tip and pipe a couple dark chocolate dots on the white for buttons, and do a little infinity symbol (sideways 8) for the bowtie.

Plain sushi (black seaweed wrapper around white rice)
Blackened steak with cream sauce or rocquefort

Napkins, alternate color (2 folded together)
same goes for plates and tablecloth
try to invite mixed-race couples to lighten it up (if you think this may be appropriate-I am in a mixed race relationship and would laugh)

Checkers (no red chips!)
same for poker

play B&W movie in the background

Ansel Adams prints

Have fun!

Table decor: Polka dotted linen for table surround dishes with dark black stones/marbles, white pillar candles, white large lilies. Use plenty of white doily's , Hilum balloons, black /white umbrellas hanging use them as floral base for dry flowers.

Black forest cake with white mouse, plenty of black olives, bread garnished with black sesame seeds. Rice with chinese beef if cooked with soy sauce turns blackish. Use grated coconut for any garnish.
