The pre prepared stuff is good but cous cous is a whole lot better if you make it yourself and its not difficult or time consuming. The pre packaged ones will contain dried cous cous, spices, herbs and dried vegetables which youu them have to add hot water too. Its not bad but there is a high salt content in the flavouring. You can also get cous cous flavouring from a jar and add it to your own cous cous. This I think is better.

To make your own cous cous ;

Take 250g (4 people) cous cous in a bowl and fill with enough water to sit on the service of the couse couse. Leave for a couple of minutes and soon the cous cous soaks the water. The water you add should be about a half a mug not alot. The consistantcy should be like wet sand and this make this easier to cook with.

Then in a pan put two tablespoon of oil and fry minced onion (medium) and a clove of garlic. To this add one tablespoon of turmeric which will give colour to the cous cous. Stir over medium heat. This mixture should dry up as the pan is hot. Then add 1.25 mug (300) ml vegtable stock and stir. The onion mixture should thicken the stock a bit. Then simmer for a minute before adding the cous cous and stir. Once the couse cous has absorbed the mixtured (keep stirring) switch of pan and leave on heat. The consitancy of the cous cous should not be well moist.

After this you can add whatever fillings you want. I put salad (copped carrots, cucumber and spring onion) or you can put chargrilled vegetables (mushroom, peppers, aubergines and courgettes.) For 250 gms cous cous do 2/3rds of vegtables compared to what you have in the pan.

Mix vegtables in. You can eat cous cous warm or refrigerate and eat cold. You can serve with meat or prawns or fish and natural yogurt, vinagrette or sour cream dressing. I recommend putting a whole lemon juice into the salad cous cous and maybe a litte chilli if you are doing chargrilled veges.

Yes I have - it is disgusting!
I love cous cous but the ones with added flavours taste very artificial and are not really necessary as you can add you own flavour. Buy plain cous cous, pour on boiling water and leave to stand for 15 mins. Add a bit of lemon juice, Olive oil, soya sauce and whatever herbs and spices you like.

Best wishes.

The flavoured cous cous is really quite nice i absolutely love the Lemon and Cracked Pepper flavour.
Unlike rice (which you boil) you need to soak cous cous so it 'puffs' up. Pretty much simmer by the guidelines on the packet and you can't go wrong

I love cous cous! It is totally simple to make and a nice, healthy dish. I live to put spray butter in mine and a few dashes of tabasco. The garlic and herb flavor is good.

I used to eat this every day in college! It's way better for you then Ramen Noodles!

I had cous cous last night for my dinner with chicken and salad. I bought an Ainsley Harriet one it was low fat and was so easy to make.

You put some water in and bring to boil, leave to stand for 5 minutes (with lid on), put back on hob for 1 min.

There are so many flavours you can get and it goes with lots of things.
