I saw them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I'm thinking of buying one for my tailgate party this weekend.

If you own one, how do you like it? Is it very messy? Also, do they give you a recipe for the chocolate and are the ingredients things you can easily find at the grocery store?

Thanks for the help!

I bought one for my wedding at K-Mart, it was the cheapest I found it anywhere (about 30$). It was easy to use. The box should tell you recipes for your chocolate, you have to melt the chocolate first and add oil to it to keep it thin enough to be pumped through the fountain. I recommend using semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, because most things that you use to dip are already sweet on their own, so it creates a nice balance. I don't know if I would suggest one for a tailgate party though, it just doesn't seem practical. They aren't messy to clean, but your table will be from all of the drips of people dipping into it. It would be a nice thing to have for a nice dinner, or a family get together, but I think you would be getting into to much hassle for a tailgate party. If you really want dipping chocolate at your party though, maybe do a fondue pot. This way you don't have to worry about having electric, and it is just as easy, and you still get to have a dipping chocolate. Hope this helped, if you have anymore questions feel free to email me.

I don' t think you want to take a chocolate fountain to a tailgate party. Are you going to have access to electricity? I don't think I have seen any that are battery operated. They are very messy. It is a great idea for a birthday party or something in a house, but I don't think it will go over well outside. Mine came with little chocolate melts and directions for dipping and making suckers and such, but I don't know if all of them do. It is a fun thing to have during the holidays though, so if you really wanted one for fun, go for it. There are lots of things you can do with it, plus it looks cool as a centerpiece on a dessert table at say, a wedding or something. Good luck with your tailgate party!

Is this going to be a watch-it-on-tv tailgate party? Seems like a chocolate fountain would be more practical for that purpose than an acutual on-the-campus-lawn tailgater.

I got a fountain last week for my birthday but I haven't used it yet. I'm going to use a friend's recipe for chocolate fondue that calls for a combination of Hershey's chocolate sauce and sweetened condensed milk. That way I won't have to use oil to thin the sauce.

I'm also going to use it for swiss beer-cheese fondue with chunks of brown bread and sausages for dipping.

Another idea is to use it for bbq sauce. Use a platter of sliced smoked sausages or other smoked meats and some toothpicks to accompany it.

Have fun at your party!

I have seen them in the store. They are suppose to be very difficult to clean.

How would you use one at a tailgate party? Do you have access to electricity?

I don't care for the "chocolate" you have to put in them... it's more like Magic Shell or dip-cone chocolate than real melted chocolate. Blech.

I hire massive ones forparties and they are great, you just need fruit, like strawberries, grapes, bananas, pineapple, apricots, mangoes , pears and oranges. also, marsmallows, cake, dried fruit and milk to drink with it better than wine ir water
