Well beer does have carbs, which will raise your blood sugar, but alcohol can cause your blood sugar to drop, so yes and no. Unfortunately the drop never is perfect to balance out the rise in the blood sugar, so you can go either way, too high, too low, or just right. Be careful drinking and make sure you still test your blood sugar to make any needed adjustments.

I wish I knew. I am Canadian so my blood sugar measurement is different. My blood sugar today was 26. I have had a headache for the past 5 days. It feels like my head is on fire on the left side. I have very good blood pressure. My sister in law tells me to drink as much water as I can stand and then have more. Of course ,,,,,,,,,do the proper diet. If your sugar is very high do not exercise strenuously until it lowers to a safe level. . You are thirsty because of the high blood levels. If you keep this up , you can go into renal failure, and that means dialysis. So looks like a wake up call for me and for you........we cannot keep this up forever. It is hard to bring a diabetic out of a coma and then damage can result. I often wonder why I just cannot seem to get a handle on my diabetes. I am on all the medications I can take , then the next step is insulin. I have to work alone so am afraid of insulin, I cannot afford the insulin pump. I AM MY OWN WORST ENEMY. !!

Yes. Beer is full of carbs .... sugar. Check with your doctor and nutritionist about having a beer, or how many beers, and how often. Maybe you can substitute a beer for something else in your diet. But beer certainly does affect your sugar levels.

I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. It can . It can also drop your sugar levals because of the alcohol in it. I believe that 1 beer is ok every now and then if you put it into your diet and count it as your carbs but its really not recemened for diabetics.

when you consume beer your blood sugar will drop and the quickly rise.
