But I have no idea what some examples of British cuisine are other than kidney pie and I'm 48 years old. Can anyone out there tell me about some other dishes/examples of British cuisine or offer an opinion of why it is so badmouthed? Thanks.

It's not the cuisine that's bad it's the cook! No seriously, there are very tasty dishes that are easy if you check this or other recipe websites if you search. My recommendations? Shepherd's or Cottage pie, Lamb or Lancashire Hot pot, and Fish pie! I must admit that some are strange dishes but same goes for every cuisine! Enjoy!

Now that's just "old fogey" talk! British cuisine has come a long way since the 60's/70's; Their most famous dishes are Roast Beef, Fish and chips, Bubble and Squeak(a potato/cabbage dish), Steak and Kidney Pie, Bangers (sausages), kippers, herring: hearty, comfort food(good grease); they've cut back on the fats, added more natural, eclectic ingredients; also, Indian Cuisine is very big.

It has improved enormously in the past 10 years or so. There are now gourmet restaurants in London. Chef Gordon Ramsey is an example of the new type of English cuisine. Some old style English dishes are: Bubble and Squeak, Toad in the Hole, Yorkshire Pudding to name a few.

People who don't like British cuisine must just have had something that wasn't boiled long enough. As the Bard himself said "What joy upon the tongue shall be a well-boiled kidney, forsooth!"

Many people seem to find the foods of Britain to be bland. The foods they eat in my opinion are quite good, the seasonings they use are not the ones that I have used, so they take a little getting used to. My best friend lived there for many years. She also said they tend to drink there beverages at room temperature. So a nice cold beer out of the question.

I'm from the land of Haggis and mushy peas originally, so I don't know if I can comment on terrible food (although Haggis can be mighty tasty).
My biggest problem is not the food thats served, but the way it's cooked. I never order red meat over there because they cook it until it's a strange shade of grey. Everything gets overcooked.

Well, I have not been there in years, but typical British cuisine is as follows chicken, green beans, new potatoes. All very bland, also.....night....after night....after night.
