You should go to the Emergency room, that is nothing to play around with. My x husband had a heart attack at the age of 34!

Well... Here is what the paramedics will ask if you call 911.
What were you doing when the pain started?
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst pain you have ever felt what is it?
Does the Pain Radiate anywhere?
What does the pain feel like? Pressure? Stabbing? achy?
Do you have pain when you breathe?

If it is cardiac your answers will be similar to the following:
I was sitting here/doing an activity
it started a few min ago - to a few days ago
The pain is an 8 on a 10 scale or higher or lower depending on your physiology
The pain is a pressure
The pain goes to my back, jaw, left arm
Nausea
I do not have pain when I breathe but I am having trouble breathing.

Here is the physiology behind it all.
When you are having a heart attack the following is good to know.
--The heart does not have pain receptors so you have what is called referred pain... that is why you have pain to your left arm, jaw, or back.
You have nausea because there is a nerve that runs by your heart through your diaphram and to your stomach. That nerve gets irritated and makes you have an upset stomach.

Here is the problem:
Heart attacks can be silent. Like I said the heart has no pain receptors so it doesn't always present with chest pain. You can have no chest pain but flu like symptoms.

Nausea, chills, pale, and sweaty.

I classic heart attack presents as:
Signs:
Pale, cool, sweaty skins
Shortness of breath
Substernal Chest pain that radiates to the left arm.

There you go if it sounds like you... Go to the ER yesterday

There is also a condition called angina pectoris which mimics a heart attack but is passing and survivable.

If you're having the pain now, call 911. If you're not, get to a doctor TODAY.

It's impossible to tell whether chest pain is cardiac over the Internet. I could give you a few tips, but the problem is that you could convince yourself that you are or are not having pain from certain things. (The mind is cruel that way.) Testing at the hospital/doctor's office is the only way to know for sure.

It COULD be something serious, but it could also be a case of Chostochondritis, an inflammation of the cartilage in the ribs - almost like arthritis, usually coming from stress or too much caffeine (THAT DOES NOT FEEL GOOD o_O)

But, going to the emergency room would not be a bad idea -_0

If you are having chest pain now, dial 911 and call the paramedics. If you don't have chest pain now, please make an appointment with your doctor and get checked out.

Do you actually think even a doctor can tell you why you are having chest pain on Yahoo Answers?

This is how you can tell if its cardiac or gastric.....if ANYTHING helps the pain (other than narcotic pain medication) such as changing position, burping or moving around then it is not cardiac.
