HPV is one of the most common STDs out there. I've read about 75-80% of the world has it and only about 20some% know they have it. That is why it is spread so easily. Most people don't realize they have it and end up spreading it on to others.

The main concern with HPV is the cervical cancer. It kills 4,000 women a year and is the second most common kind of cancer in women, after breast cancer. It can cause other cancer like anal cancer, penile cancer, head and neck cancer, but these are more rare. HPV can also cause warts. Genital warts are the most common, but can be treated fairly easy.

There is a new vaccine that was approved not too long ago called Gardasil. The vaccine targets the two most common high-risk HPVs, types 16 and 18. Together, these two HPV types cause about 70% of all cervical cancer. Gardasil also targets HPV types 6 and 11, which together cause about 90% of all cases of genital warts.

I personally have had HPV for over 5 years. I developed cervical cancer from it when I was just 17 years old. I got genital warts from it about 9 months ago.

I have hpv, my xboyfriend had it and he gave it to me knowing he had it!! I was 17 when I learned I had it, the only reason I knew was because I got a few very small warts. They were removed at the drs. and I have never had them again, and all my pap tests are normal so my dr. says I shouldn't really have to worry about cervical cancer since my body has pretty much gotten rid of it and that it is external not internal for me! Id say the biggest consequences is having a new partner and telling them you have it, even though it is common and not really a huge deal its embarrassing and makes you feel like no one will want to be with you. But I have had bfs after my asshole x who gave it to me, and they have all been understanding. The other consequence is worrying that I will get cervical cancer. Besides that though I pretty much forget I have it. But latley with all the commercials I have been thinking about it more. But I just saw my doctor and she reassured me I am not at risk for cervical cancer. Hopefully this will help you alittle! If you have anyother questions let me know!

Depends on the strain...genital warts & cervical cancer. It is an STD so you can pass it on but there is no test for men so they may have it an never know it untill they have unprotected sex and their partner can get it.

In women the virus may take awhile to show up on paps and in some cases can go away on it's own. It is treatable with minor surgeries.

Beyond the obvious (genital warts & cervical cancer), there's also the rampant spread of the virus. It is virulent in both men AND women, although most men don't experience symptoms (beyond the warts). However, with multiple sex partners and unprotected sex being what it is these days, the spread of the virus is HIGHLY possible and definitely contageous.

there are two categories if you want to place them the
the low risk(genetal worts in which you can get treatments
and pills etc)
the high risk(cervical cancer the doc will make you an appt to get a colpo exam in wich they can see what is really goin on in there and see what options they have if it becomes cancerous they will have to remove it (the cervix or even more)
