I sing with a mixed choir, and I am on the music selection comittee. I am looking for suggestions of Christmas music that can be performed chorally. We sing a variety of music. SATB is good but if it is a good arrangement willing to try other voicings. Choir is about 35 voices.

The choir is non auditioned and of very mixed orientation. It is based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Also sometimes the treble voices are harder to come by, believe it or not we are not experiencing a shortage of men. How ever some of the female population seem to be short in number, particularly sopranos. I don't think there are many lesbian sopranos.

The Alfred Burt carols are wonderful, http://www.alfredburtcarols.com/

Classic, some are more well know than others. Thoughtful lyrics and beautiful music. My favorite piece from the collection is "Some Children See Him." They are fairly easy to learn, but interesting.

Carols and Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest, by Conrad Susa
A beautiful selection of 10 songs, all done in a variety of Latin languages, Spanish, Catalonian, Puerto Rican, etc. More challenging, but definately worth the effort. Really beautiful!!! There are two opportunities for soloists in this piece.

Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten. I sang this in an SSAA group, but you might be able to find it in SATB. We only did two pieces from the book, Wolcum Yole, and This Little Babe. This Little Babe is a challenging piece with lots of quick words, but really great and fun to do with fabulous lyrics.

Christmas in about 3 minutes, by Mark Weston is a fun piece. It is all familiar carols one on top the other. We had an audience contest to see who could name the most songs.

If you are looking for something funny/silly I am pretty sure that there is an satb version of "the 12 days AFTER Christmas"... really funny piece based on the 12 days of Christmas, but dealing with a couple's break-up and all the things they do to the gifts that were given... always gets laughs!

Angel's Carol, by John Rutter, is breathtaking. Don't try and do in just a week, though. It's very complicated. You will an experienced choir or it will take you until Christmas of '07 to do it. SATB.
