The same reason why one persons death = murder ... and thousands (millions) of deaths = political and religious nonsense

This quote from Voltaire says it all to me really...

''All murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.''

good question and not one good solid answer.

i would suppose in theory that torturing an animal is strickly set on emotion and thrill of doing something mean without the reprocussions (if you don't get caught that is)

and on a scientific aspect, the torturing is required to see if a certain medicinal property works against a certain disease.

you would find that less and less animals are being used for scientific research these days...this is due to two things:
1. diseases in animals and the properties of medication will not help the actual human
2. cruelty to animals is inhumane.

i have spoken with several people who have to use animals in experiments on occassion and you would be surprised at how they treat the animal being tested on...with sympathy, with prayer, with sorrow.....they are petted and thanked.....it is not a guilt free job, nor does it take one to be totally heartless for the job.

most pharmicutical companies these days use humans in experiements because we have human volunteers such as myself in which the true outcome of the medicinal properties are highlighted, ie. a good outcome or a bad outcome.

without my trial, i would not be healthy today.

Stephanie, I wonder who you spoke to about animal testing because as far as I know they're tested for NO reason over and over again to make sure that products like bleach, mascara, shampoo, clorox wipes, etc are safe for 'you' to use. The animal is force fed these substances in doses until it vomits, seizures, etc then dies. Millions of animals are burned alive by substances created to make us lazy, spoiled, selfish humans lives easier.

you forget, not everyone is on the animal rights boat. those who agree with the latter probably don't agree with the former either.

nor is this exclusive to animals:

The same reason why if you kill one person you are a murderer, if you kill 100,000 you are a liberator.
