Just be straight up with him, but for the most part if this person were a real friend and i guarentee everybody else is gonna say the same thing.. This so called friend would be able to look past the handicapp and just continue being friends.. There is a light to be seen here,.

With friends like that, who needs enemies. Anyone who could desert a friend because of a handicap is not a friend. Maybe this person just couldn't deal with it, but that's still not a good excuse. There are lots of support groups and other friends that will stick by you and your husband. Your husband is probably aware of the reason why the so-called "friend" left, so he won't be surprised if you tell him the reason. He may feel bad, but just let him know that you are the one who will be there for him, and hopefully encourage him to make new real friends.

I wouldn't say anything to the husband unless asked. Never lie, but don't offer the information unless you have to. Why add to his burden of guilt and helplessness at this time. He will probably figure it out on his own after a while. Some people can barely handle their own problems and cannot handle the hardships of others. Do not blame him too much because anger and resentment hurt you. I don't wish to give the impression that I condone his actions, but you cannot force another to think or act the way you want them too. You must take care of you and your husband now. Many handicapped individuals live long and productive lives. Best wishes.

umm.no, it's not his fault tht he loses a leg. If they leave you, then they're not ur friends. You shouldn't treat ur husband as if it was his fault tht the ppl u meet are shallow
